What the hell business is it of any non -member what dues are paid by a private individual to be a member of a private group? I acan only assume that the AGMC is voluntary becasue Ihave never seen armed henchmen capturing young men in Midtown and speeding away in unmarked vans.

besides, name any group worth belongng to that isn't costly.

Alarm bells go off when I see words like "excessive" combined with "fees", "dues" or "profits".

Sounds like the writer at ACM is jealous, threatened or closeted.

Well...I'm not sure what the author is talking about! We pay $18/month to sing in the AGMC, which is on par with what the majority of GALA Choruses pay (Gay and Lesbian Association of Choruses). This pays only a fraction of our annual budget of $300,000/year. I can tell you that nobody is making lots of money off the AGMC, and we try our best to contribute musically to the arts culture of Atlanta, and provide a safe/supportive place for gay men to gather and perform. We have done this successfully for over 25 years and lost an entire chorus of members to AIDS in the process. Still...we keep singing. Thanks to the people of Atlanta for supporting us!

Speaking of hackles, who knew that the Atlanta Gay Men’s Chorus could irritate someone so much?

I think my girlfriend's cousin in that.

For an entertainment group like the AGMC, there's not a whole lot of large and high-paying venues where a Gay Men's Chorus is actively propositioned in the Dirty South. If it's going to continue running, then the money has to come from somewhere. Did the author of the blog exert account for that? This isn't like the Atlanta Ballet - this is a voluntary performance group.

Unless there's a previously-undiscovered scandal involving the lining of someone's pockets with the money earned from playing venues, the members will have to continue paying "excessive quarterly dues" in order to provide entertainment. That's a highly specialized chorus, catering to a particular group of individuals, which may not have a year-round need or enough protifable opportunities for a Gay Men's Chorus.
