Fulton judge approves more Beltline bonds

For the second time this year, a Fulton County judge has given her stamp of approval to the sale of millions of dollars in bonds to help pay for the Beltline, the 22-mile loop of transit and trails that will circle intown Atlanta.

In January, Judge Gail Tusan approved the sale of up to $200 million in bonds. On Tuesday, she approved up to $28 million, the AJC reported.

But so far, the city has seen none of the $200 million. That’s because Atlanta lawyer and neighborhood activist John Woodham appealed the judge’s decision, claiming that the funding structure for the Beltline violates the Constitution. Woodham’s appeal has delayed the progress of the popular project for months.

Woodham did not immediately return CL’s request for comment on whether he’ll appeal this decision as well.

UPDATE: Woodham tells CL, “No decision on that at this time.”
