Yeah, the scene is filled with lots of "one-hit wonders" (at least in the national scene's eyes) and guys who still perform well into their 60s, 70s, and 80s. Gatemouth Brown performed all the way up to the end even while battling cancer (which caught with him post-Katrina). It was amazing how many older guys would continued to perform in the clubs, including Ernie K-Doe, who defies description. Going to shows there was like a series of New Orleans Music 101 classes. One local music writer's motto: "Don't miss the legends." The same should go here. If you have a chance to see an Atlanta treasure (like The Mighty Hannibal earlier this year at The Earl), catch 'em!

Thanks for sharing this with Atlanta. Many are entirely unaware of the gumbo of musical acts that comprise the New Orleans R&B scene. It only begins with the impressive resume' of recent Elvis Costello partner Allen Toussaint.
