“Cousin Sonny makes it Officialâ€
by Victor Jones
At approximately 10a.m. this overcast, foggy and chilly morning; Governor Sonny Perdue, with his entourage of body guards and handlers breezed by my right shoulder. I was standing near the elevator at the Georgia Sport’s Hall of Fame in Macon, Georgia. He was on his way up, I was on my way out.
The close proximity to a raw political tiger made me drop the sweat drenched handkerchief in my right hand and reach for the Telegraph in my left. Genealogical forces beyond my understanding compelled me to yell over two black and blue suited shoulders. “Governor Purdue, may I have your autograph?â€
=========
it’s only 30 paragraphs long but it’s amazin how paragraphs get longer after the first 10. Bill Shipp invited me to brunch after he read this one, which inspired the Old Shoes at the Kennesaw Cracker Barrel short story, which inspired the, well i’m on strike for now….
but maybe 2 paragraphs a day til y’all run out of water and-if-then we can renegotiate the tap water?

ahh, givin up ain’t in my vocabulary.
paragraphs 2 through 4:
The Governor suspiciously glanced at my eyes, mumbled something, turned toward the elevator, looked at one of his body guards, standing behind me and reached for the extended Telegraph. “Please autograph it to Cousin Vic?†The body guard, behind me whipped out a germ-free, black, felt-tipped pen and beat my Senior-Care Inc, smiley-faced pen to the Governor’s outstretched paw.
Mr. Perdue’s canine molars winced when he asked, , “Is that Vic, with a V?†I self consciously mumbled “Yes sir, V as in Victorious; that’s a copy of the Telegraph’s morning article on your Budget Proposal. ReverendDaddyRick is my reference…†It was written testimony and official before I could pick up the handkerchief, “To Cousin Vic, Sonny Perdue.†The white elevator doors closed before I could snap a camera pic and say thank you. I didn’t know whether to salute or go blind.
