14th Street bridge/road project poised to cripple Atlanta begins Saturday

February 8, 2008 at 10:29 am by Thomas Wheatley in News

Get ready. Techwood Drive is shutting down and southbound interstate commuters will be directed to the 17th Street bridge when work on the 14th Street bridge begins. Here are the facts from the DOT:

The following closures will affect motorists traveling into Midtown Atlanta from I-85 southbound and I-75 southbound:

* I-85 southbound ramp to 14 and 10 streets will close on Saturday, February 9th.

– Motorists should exit I-85 at 17th Street (Exit 84) and utilize the 17th Street bridge to Spring Street to access Midtown and locations west of I-75/85.

* I-75 southbound ramp to 14th and 10th streets from Exit 250 will close on Saturday, February 9th.

– Motorists should exit I-75 at Northside Drive (Exit 252) and turn left onto 10th Street to access Midtown.

* Techwood Drive between 16th and 10th streets will close on Saturday, February 9th.

The 14th Street bridge work will hopefully be completed in 2010. Williams Street will remain closed until summer of 2009.

Needless to say, this is going to severely impact your commute, as well as ours — we’re on the Georgia Tech side of North Avenue. DOT advises commuters to search for alternatives at the Clean Air Campaign.
