Chief Richard Pennington ‘out of the country’
March 17, 2008 at 12:43 pm by Andisheh Nouraee in NewsIf you’re wondering why Atlanta Police Chief Richard Pennington wasn’t standing next to Mayor Shirley Franklin and Fire Chief Kelvin Cochran at Saturday’s post-tornado city news conference, it’s because he’s on vacation.
According to APD’s public affairs office, Pennington is out of the country and will not be cutting his vacation short to lead the department’s post-tornado operations.
You may recall, Pennington was also out of town when Atlanta Police shot, killed, and attempted to cover-up the killing of 92-year-old Kathryn Johnston during a botched 2006 drug raid.
At the time, Pennington said he was unable to book a flight back to Atlanta on any of the at least 58 non-stop daily flights from New York.
Question: If it’s not actually necessary to have a police chief on-duty during times of crisis, why does the city pay him?

Well, look at it this way, it ain’t like he actually does anything when he’s supposedly not on vacation. Both he and Shirley have been MIA since her second “term” began. I can’t wait for new administration.

What kind of question is that.?? How could he afford
to take his annual vacations
(specially out side the country), if the city does not pay him at the tax payers expense..??.

Atlpaddy, If I was MIA how did I call the press conference at 1:00am Saturday and monitor the storm response in person. You, my friend, refuse to acknowledge the facts. That is a sign of ignorance.
