And while local congressmen seem keen on the idea, the merger still has more skeptical politicians, as well as unions and antitrust regulators, to clear before becoming final.
HERSCHEL WALKER: Appeared on “Nightline” last night to discuss his dissociative identity disorder.
IDLE HAYNES: Norreese wants back on board, but the school system’s attorney suggests the board wait until the courts rule on his residency. Meanwhile, the actual accreditation crisis continues.
JIMMY CARTER: Meets with Hamas, pisses off Israel.
HAWKS: Make the playoffs for the first time this century, earning the right to lose to the Celtics in the first round. I think this is a good time to revisit the video below (there’s an 18-second delay at the beginning of the clip). Look out for current Celtics coach and then-Hawk Doc Rivers near the end:

That song is almost as powerful as “Hugs Not Drugs,” the Hawks’ musical advice for children to avoid the dope and raise the roof for hope. Does anyone besides me remember that song?

Couldn’t find it but id find this:
The other is a community service number, “Hugs, Not Drugs†(Brave Dog 21065), which is appropriately credited to the Tall Boys — four members of the Atlanta Hawks 1988 NBA team. These particular tall boys are: Wayne “Tree†Rollins, Jon Koncak, Cliff Levingston, and Kevin Willis.

That was it, Mr. T. I even attended their VIP banquet, held at the Galleria if I recall correctly. My PE teacher gave my family the tickets, so for one glorious night, the Wheatleys were “The Grahams.” I met Spud Webb and Dominique. It was a great song. “If you wanna have fun we’ll show you how, it’s basketball, and the time is now!”

That team had so much personality and style. Even the half-second flash frame of ‘Kak brought a smile to my face.

Agreed, Matt. Those guys ruled, especially at a time when the NBA as a whole had character.

They might have a shot, but they don’t have a team identity. I’m pining for the good ole 80s, of course. But what teams out there now actually have the spirit we saw back then?
