Yoo hoo, America.

April 30, 2008 at 9:46 am by Andisheh Nouraee in Don't Panic

Yo, America.

American casualties in Iraq are up for the third straight month.

If you insist on focusing your attention on the idiotic ramblings of a narcissistic, ill-tempered religious figure, how about focusing it on one whose ramblings mean life-or-death for thousands of Americans and Iraqis.

The attention is focused on the judgement of the leading Presidential candidate who has called this religious figure an “uncle”, a “mentor” and a man whom he cannot abandon….just before he abandoned him after 20 years…

You do agree that personal associations a person makes are key to their fitness for the Presidency, right?

From your perspective….as The Who said “We Won’t Get Fooled Again”…..

If there was any indication that Sen. Obama shares any of Wright’s idiotic viewpoints, I’d question his judgment, too.

But all of the evidence here is to the contrary yet we still keep hearing about Wright as if he matters more than a certain other loudmouthed cleric.

  3. DaleC Says:

Before yesterday, there was very little evidence to the contrary.

Do you share any, or many, of the viewpoints of your mentors? I do, that is what makes them mentors.

Obama has endorsed Wroght’s views publicly based on his own words, church attendance and donations. To think he doesn’t share some of the beliefs of Wright is not reasonable. That he did not know those beliefs, is not possible. Obama has said both in the last few weeks, Wright has been spewing this garbage for, at least, 7 years.

Question – if Bush had sat in Jerry Falwell or Fred Phelp’s pews for 20 years, would he get the same benefit of the doubt?

    All of that is bullshit.

Everyone has a history of bad judgment at some point in their lives. Just look at the NYT story about John McCain that came out the other month — it was all about his history of bad judgement, from his dealings in the S&L bailout to his extramarital affairs, etc.

All the candidates have had moments of both good and bad judgment.

    So what?

  5. DaleC Says:

Bad judgement from 20 years ago and bad judgement from last week, either way it tells us something about the candidate, no? Obama has based his candidacy on getting past race and his mentor has based his career on race and the past injustices.

My point was that this is about Obama’s judgement and duplicity, not about Wrights idiotic beliefs.

BTW, I am no big McCain fan either.

Dale, I’m not saying many of Wright’s views and statements aren’t vile or that Obama shouldn’t explain what it is about Wright that drew him to the church.

The reason this is a non-issue to me is because Obama has neither expressed nor hinted at affinity for Wright’s toxic viewpoints.

The difference between Obama-Wright and Bush-Falwell is that Bush and his party actively court voters who agree(d) with Falwell/Robertson worldview. Obama ’s candidacy and policies, on the other hand, are an explicit rebuke of Wright’s worst aspects.

  7. DaleC Says:

Obama refused to seperate himself from the person who is the expressor of those very statements and viewpoints. Rather, he embraced the man, even after the deniability of knowledge of the statements was completely removed. Embrace=rebuke?

Yesterday was a specific rebuke. Good for Obama.

Thanks for not answering the Bush/Falwell question. Obama is/was doing the same for the radical left through Wright and Ayers (political sponsor). “oh that’s not an official part of my campaign, just my crazy ass mentor and terrorist friend”.
