Swastika defaces Obama portrait in L5P

Camron Wiltshire and two other artists had been working last week on the piece at the corner of Colquitt and Euclid avenues. Sir2 painted another Obama portrait, and Michi had scripted out the old Sam Cooke lyric: “A long time coming but a change gonna come.”
Wiltshire, who happens to be a former CL Lust List winner, came by today to put the finishing touches on his portrait — and discovered the swastika. Sir2’s portrait also was defaced with a swastika.
“Nothing stops love,” Wiltshire said. “The person who did it is forgiven. And if he’d like to come talk to me, I am open to it. And I hope as a collective humanity can evolve and learn to love each other.”

I think its a disgrace that this Barack Obama piece was put there in the first place. They covered a portrait of Martin Luther King with one of an unaccomplished politician; it makes no sense.

Having painted both walls I will say that my intention was to not focus on the perpetrators at all.
Whats the point? I mean so what if someone defaces something, what about what they are defacing? And why are artists so inspired to paint the future president of the United States?
Well its because this candidate actually has the potential to heal America’s unkempt racial, genocidal wounds.
This man is a living symbol of unity being both truly Black and White. This is someone who is a living example of Dr. Kings dream.
Dr. Martin Luther King is of course to be always respected, but he is also dead. Obama is alive, therefore it is important that we do something NOW to affect change.
I will paint Dr. King many times in my life I am sure, and this wall will continue to be used for public art and hopefully to inspire higher ideals in those who pass it. Though he is not with us physically his Dream and his courage and conviction live forevermore.
Also remember, there are many walls in this city, feel free to post your own complaints, dreams, fears, loves, etc.
Now let’s get busy!

The defamation of the wall is a symbol of fear. Fear in all those who embrace oppression and hate amongst all races, sexes, religion, and classes. They fear a change is inevitable. Dr Martin Luther King would be proud of the 2008 rainbow coalition. Paint over him now and paint over Barack with our future leader later!

Have you seen the look on people’s faces at Obama rallies? Have you noticed the narcisstic aspect of the “O” symbol in red/white/blue (swastika anyone?). Do you not see the extreme danger in a person saying “….We are the change we’ve been waiting for.” (Obama on Super Tuesday night).
