Crime down in U.S., up in Atlanta

June 9, 2008 at 4:44 pm by Andisheh Nouraee in News

In every category tracked by the feds, crime declined nationwide during 2007. So says the FBI, which released its annual crime report today.

Unfortunately, while crime was down nationwide in 2007, it was way up in Atlanta.

The graph below, which looks like crap because I made it with Excel’s Chart Wizard function, compares crime numbers released by the FBI today with 2007 crime statistics on the Atlanta Police Department’s web site.

Judging by the constant barrage of Crime Alert emails I get from Georgia Tech, you can’t walk from the gym to Tech Square at night without a car full of generic young males hopping out and robbing you at gunpoint these days. Maybe they should focus less on parking enforcement and more on our physical safety….

What the ….?? Did the Atlanta cops forget how to cook the books?

I think that the plan is for the new S&W handguns they just issued APD officers to help bring crime down. I read that they’re sending everyone to Dekalb for marksmanship training first, so they can be truly effective crimestoppas.
