I remember this because in February President Bush wanted $225 million less for public transportation security funding than Congress had appropriated. The state does contribute a tiny amount to MARTA -- roughly $1.9 million or less than 2 percent of its revenues -- in the form of state grants. But these do not cover the costs of actually operating the system. Georgia's basically alone in that regard. Ever. But hey, there's that handy-dandy call button on each car! Make sure your gran sits right under one when she's coming home from work on a dark and scary night.
