Brady Campaign weighs in on guns at Atlanta’s airport

It has caught the attention of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, the organization founded by former Reagan Press Secretary James Brady.
Paul Helmke, president of the Brady Campaign, issued the following statement:
“I want to praise the sensible managers at Atlanta’s Hartsfield International Airport, for putting public safety first in declaring yesterday that they will strenuously enforce the firearms rule in that facility. These public servants are doing their job and should be congratulated for that.
“The Atlanta airport is one of the busiest in the world. Seven years ago, our nation learned what can happen when airport security is breached. None of us will ever forget the consequences.
“The gun lobby leaders in Georgia should be ashamed of themselves for being willing to trade on our nation’s safety for the purposes of advancing their extremist agenda.”

How does 9/11, where no gun was used, support the airport ban? Airport security is not endangered by permit pwners. It is endangered by criminals.
Question for Mr. Helmke - would 9/11 have happened if permit owners were allowed to carry on the plane?
I do not support concealed carry on planes, but the Brady respons e is ludicrous. Concealed permit owners are the most law abiding demographic in the US, but facts will never stop Brady and HCI.

Helmke invokes 9/11 to support his position on gun control, but I feel safer flying post-9/11 now that the Federal Flight Deck Officer program is in place.

I wonder what Helmke’s position is on the program? I can’t find any mention of it on the Brady Campaign’s web site.
