Powell says ‘thanks’ to the sword-and-scale wielding blindfolded lady

August 22, 2008 at 11:02 am by Thomas Wheatley in News

No word yet from Georgia Secretary of State Karen Handel if her office will appeal yesterday’s ruling in Fulton County Superior Court that Public Service Commission candidate Jim Powell is indeed eligible to run for office in his district.

After the jump, Powell’s statement regarding the legal ping-pong match.

Dear Friends,

As you may have already read in the news and blogs, we were successful in our lawsuit against Secretary of State Handel in her attempt to keep me off the ballot in November. I want to thank each of you for having faith in this campaign and our ability to put a voice for consumers’ rights and alternative energy sources on the Public Service Commission. Each of you plays a critical role in this organization and I will always be grateful to have you as a member of our team.

When I found out that our hearing had been rescheduled today, I was on the campaign trail, meeting with voters and elected officials in middle Georgia. As our future was decided in Fulton County, I remained on the trail, making my case to the voters. I believe that is the kind of campaign you would want me to run – one that is focused on the issues, the voters, and the change we need on the PSC. I was, and am, confident in the abilities of my attorneys to represent me in court, and I thank them for their work.

When I look back on our past successful hearings I continue to be proud of our judiciary. We are truly blessed to live in a country and state where partisan politics have NO place in our courts. I am proud of our judicial system and applaud them for their dedication to the rule of law.

I would also like to thank my family, especially my wife Karen, for always believing in me and my abilities to serve our great state. I also want to thank all of those who have contributed their time and money to our campaign, and extend my heartfelt thanks to Jane Kidd and the Democratic Party of Georgia for their support and hard work behind the scenes.

Our hard work continues and I am looking forward to continuing all of our campaign efforts.

To Victory,
Jim

Jim Powell, Candidate
Georgia Public Service Commission

But according to Karen Handel’s response to Bill Shipp’s column in the Athens Newspaper all she is doing is enforcing the law……..as her non legal politicized mind sees it.

F judges what do they know about the law!

You mean as her uneducated, politicized mind sees it. I can’t believe she’s going to try to run for governor. Doesn’t surprise me that the GOP would consider someone who doesn’t even have a college degree to run for governor. She’s a big time kool-aid drinker, so I guess that’s why the GOP is getting behind her.

Yeah. And the activists hounds. They aren’t politicizing it at all. :eyeroll
