The downside of diesel

This means I do not have to wait in long lines to fill up my tank as there is plenty of diesel around town.
Unfortunately, this also means I can’t use “I don’t have gas” as an excuse to work from home this week.
Doh!

I’ve really hesitated to brag about my similar lack of a need for fuel. Instead, I’ve actually left my biodiesel-fueled Jetta parked for the last week and have made a point to start actively using MARTA and walking more than usual. The result has been a far superior user experience and reaffirmation that life is often better (and far more interesting) through pedestrian eyes. I don’t know how long I’ll keep it up, but at least I know I won’t have to worry about finding fuel once I do need to make a much longer trek.
What’s interested me most about the whole “gas scare” is the concept that we’re somehow entitled to this product whenever and almost wherever we want it. People complain about the hassle but never seem to acknowledge the underlying problem of addiction. And though some people have chosen not to drive long distances if unnecessary, I’m still seeing most folks unconsciously making routine short trips in their vehicles.
