Full release and additional details are after the jump.

Atlanta City Councilman Kwanza Hall and Major Khirus Williams of APD Zone 5 will be at a special town hall meeting in Midtown this week Monday (2/09). This meeting, hosted by the MPSA, targets residents of APD Zone 5 and City Council District 2. This includes not only Midtown, but also Downtown, Old Fourth Ward, Home Park, Atlantic Station, Ansley Park. Inman Park, and Poncey Highland are also in Kwanza Hall’s district. All in the city are welcome to attend.

According to APD officials, 40% of all crime reported in Zone 5 involve car break-ins. This is driven by the fact that far too many people leave valuables such as laptops, GPS devices, iPods, briefcases, purses, tollway change, etc. etc. in plain view when they park their cars. One was recently broken into over 15 cents laying on the console! This is a problem on reisdential streets, parking garages, and any place where people park their car.

The Clean Car Campaign aims to get people to not leave anything in cars. If nobody left anything worth stealing in their cars, we could lop off up to 40% or more of street crime in our community. Several groups and businesses are now urging people not to leave things in their cars. Over time these street crooks will quit coming around to look for something to steal if we will simply break the habit of leaving things around to be stolen.

These officials, plus Anne Fauver, will be on hand for during this time. They will discuss general public safety issues at length.

- MONDAY 2/09, 7PM, @LUTHERAN CHURCH OF THE REDEEMER (4th & Peachtree). Parking most easily accessed from 4th Street coming from Juniper Street.
