I know of one other in Midtown. We get a tax break as a minority.

I didn’t hear about them because, according to the linked articles, they were cleaned up so quickly and effectively.

I should have said I missed all “the oil covered birds and beaches”, which would have more directly addressed the “environmentalists” claims. My bad.

The spills were at storage facilities, not from the platforms. I still haven’t seen any reports of oil washing up on beaches. That helps refute the argument about hurting the value of Sea and Jekyll Island developments. I am pretty sure there would not be any storage facilities next to the golf courses.

The GeoTimes article also details how rapidly and effectively the spills were cleaned up, further weaking the anti-driller argument.

Thanks for the info, you have helped strengthen my argument for the drilling. :-)

DaleC, There were oil spills during Hurricane Katrina. See also here. I was surprised when I learned about that, maybe because most of the media attention was focused on those stranded in New Orleans.

So environmetalists are advising how to protect capitalist development of barrier islands? That’s pretty funny.

I must have missed the oils spills from Katrina, Ike and Gustav, not to mention the other half dozen hurricanes to make landfall in LA and TX in the last eight years.
