This is an interesting point.

Property taxes have been rising steadily over the past several years on par with property values. Will they lower with lowering property values?

My real estate agent mother-in-law provided me with a list of comparable home sales in Capitol View last year.

The average sale price of a 2BR/1BA home was $31,100.

We filed ours back in January as well as filed for the homestead exemption. I got thrown over the edge when I got around to pulling the assessments on neighbor's houses. Our place (also in the SWAT) was "valued" almost 40k more than the house across the street which was built in the same year and is in better condition.
