Streetalk: Has Michael Vick paid his dues?

June 7, 2009 at 8:21 am by Jeff Slate in Streetalk

Arthur & Mack: He’s more than paid his debt. It’s time for him to play ball. We’ve all messed around on some occasion. The punishment was a little excessive. They’ve done damage to his entire career. I would have bought season tickets if the Falcons got him back. For him personally, he should do something for dogs just to show people he’s not the tyrant they portrayed in the newspapers. For me, it’s not really necessary. People are going to love their dogs regardless. He really didn’t mess up anything.

Vor & Ceesah: He hasn’t paid enough. Eighteen months is a slap on the wrist. The NFL should set an example that this stuff will not be tolerated. It’s not like the NFL really took action against him. The government and the state took him to jail. The NFL should ban him for another two years. Vick sets such a bad example for the breed. We get a lot of crap — I can’t even take Ceesah to most day cares in the city. Vick has still got his mansion and his money. Where it really hurts him is not being able to play.

Dante & Diesel: Yes. I agree with the ruling that he should never own another dog, but he’s paid the price more than anybody for dog fighting. There’s a lot of people that fight dogs. They put a huge name on it to take responsibility. But the punishment was appropriate. I don’t know whether he’s remorseful, but he’s obligated to do something for these dog organizations. I’d give him a chance [with another team], and whoever wants to support him … that’s up to them. But I’m an Atlanta Falcons supporter, and I’d rather not support him. Dogs are close to my heart.

There is no way Vick has changed. His values, morals, and ethics are the same ones he learned growing up in the projects. He is the same person. I don’t care if he plays or not, but I am under no illusions as to the kind of person he is.

  2. Roxie and Jess Says:

Sometimes I think people won’t be satisfied until he’s homeless and forgotten and/or dead. Rarely ever see such vitriol for domestic abuse

  3. DaleC Says:

He’s paid his debt. I agree with Roxie on the subject of domestic abuse. Just compare the treatment of Vick with Chris Brown.

  4. Dash Riptide Says:

The haves are so much easier to punish severely than the have nots; they have so much more to lose. Vick must suffer until we are no longer disgusted by what he did. Is that the idea? That’s never going to happen, and we’ve blown our collective wad on making an example of Vick. Punishing him further is not going to save any more dogs from cruelty. And who doubts that he will continue to suffer a lesser life than his potential would have otherwise allowed him for the rest of his days? Not only has he suffered enough, but in subtle ways he’ll continue to suffer. How would you like to be viewed as “OJ Lite” for as long as you live? Vick has been duly punished. Enough with the whipping post already.

  5. DaleC Says:

“OJ LIte”? I hear what you are saying and agree with you, except that at least some people thought OJ was innocent. I have heard far more harsh words for Vick.

  6. Dante Says:

This is Dante from the article. I think that the issue is more about what his charcter is and how does he move forward. Marv Albert (a basketball sportscaster) had sex with a woman and beat her up and bit her but he was allowed to continue to make a living after the legal issues were resolved. M. Vick paid what the court said he had to do and it should be over.

  7. DaleC Says:

One guy hit a woman he had sex with and then tried to sabotage another womans lawsuit against him and we let him keep being President.

Good thing he didn’t beat up Buddy the Dog.

“hit a woman he had sex with”

lol. of course. i KNEW there was a way bill clinton could be tied to michael vick. thanks for the context!

  9. edgewood adam Says:

As a Falcon fan i will never forgive him. We have great coaches and a great new quarterback so what he did to this organization is not really thought about. He was the fucking QUARTERBACK. He is running an illegal dog fighting ring. Are you kidding me? If Dimitroff was not a genious we would be screwed. He also lied over and over again to Mr. Blank. The one person who always had his back, he shit all over. Mike Vick did not make just one mistake. He showed character defects that will never change. Do i think he should be able to play in the NFL? Sure. He has the ability. But i and other falcon fans should never forgive him.

  10. Dante Says:

That’s funny, Mike Vick and Bill Clinton. The bottom line is that he did his time now everyone can move on and let it go. He will be back in the NFL.

  11. Dante Says:

As a Falcon fan, I was let down by the way he lied and got on tv to say, “they will always love Mike Vick”. He is a great talent but we made him a role model. He has always been who he is. He has always had issues with the law and the actions he takes. $120 million dollar man that is trying to carry pot on a plane!! lol

  12. DaleC Says:

Bottom line – Great athlete, good quarterback, Hall of Fame Moron
