Are you feeling like your body is more of a wasteland than a wonderland? Don’t worry! Since 2001, Beverly Segel of Atlanta’s Sattva Yoga & Healing has helped people purge their toxins with colon hydrotherapy and yoga.
Tell me about what you do.
We have a healing center here at Sattva, which focuses on holistic methods. I teach yoga under the Ayurveda teaching principles as well as perform colon hydrotherapy as a healing method.
What made you choose this career?
I had a bicycle accident back in 1999 and at the time I was working a corporate job. I decided after the accident that life was too short to not be doing what I really wanted to do. I chose my career because even though the western doctors and medicine did all that they could, my real healing came from holistic methods.
What are key signs that a person is in need of a colonic?
Any type of imbalance means there is a need for cleansing. Whether it be showing on the skin, weight gain or just not feeling at your optimum level in general. The colon is the trashcan of the body and so it needs to be cleansed in order to restore balance.
Describe a typical day on the job.
A typical day consists of helping clients, evaluating their health, teaching I teach yoga classes, consulting and ultimately prescribing different kinds of therapy.
Is the process painful?
It’s not at all painful. We don’t use any chemicals or anything artificial, the method we use is quite similar to the ancient Ayurvedic method.
How long does it take?
It usually takes about forty five minutes to an hour.
How should people expect to feel after having colon hydrotherapy?
Great, like they have been cleansed and detoxified. Occasionally but very rarely people will feel extremely mild flu like symptoms which is the body’s way of healing and cleansing itself.
How do you handle the gross factor of the job?
There’s nothing gross about it. This is a method of healing that doctors should have been performing for years and they haven’t. Eighty-five percent of disease begins in the digestive system. Colon cleansing doesn’t treat just one specific problem, it corrects overall imbalance in the body. We have treated people who have been constipated for three weeks and were prepared to have surgery and after having their colon cleansed had no problems.
What do you do with the waste?
It filters out from the tube into the sewage system below the ground. It works the exact same way as a toilet.
Do you ever look at it?
No, we don’t look at it. Only doctors are legally allowed to do so. We have no interest in examining the waste, we are only concerned that it is toxic and therefore needs to be removed from the body.
What are some final words you would share with people who are afraid to receive a colonic?
I would say that the people who are the most afraid are the ones who need it the most. Typically those who have the most difficult time while being on the table are those who had the most health issues and who end up coming back repeatedly to be cleansed.

The body cleanses itself through shitting. That’s how we get rid of shit. If you can’t shit, stop eating so much shit. Try drinking water and eating a thing called a vegetable. If you really want to shove something up your ass, try putting all the money you’d be spending on this treatment up there. Think of your ass as your new piggy bank. Pigs like shit too.

Hi hot-tub
You are very lucky to be a good shitter. Not everyone is that lucky and even so, some toxic undigested waste gets lodged in the body, this is when colon cleansing is helpful. The body/mind sometimes needs help throwing off the toxins we may ingest from the air we breathe, the water we drink and the food we eat.
Take care!!!

The cleanse that I experienced at Sattva was an experience that goes beyond expectations. The set up is private, professional, and totally relaxing and rejuvinating. The results are amazing, from clear skin, no bloating, a total feeling of renewing your body.

Can you not get an enema/hot water bottle kit for $8 at the drugstore and do the same thing in the comfort of your own bathroom?

After an opiate (diacetylmorphine) addiction left me with severe constipation where I did not shit for literally over 30 days, an enema from Walgreens was able to cleanse me out totally. I can’t even imagine getting this done at an office with someone else.
And yes, after not shitting for over 30 days, there was a LOT of shit in there.

Yes, you can get an enema from the drugstore, however, your colon is usually as long as you are tall, so for most of us the colon is 5-6 feet long. It is a tubular type muscle that moves waste through in persistaltic waves. A drugstore enema may get as far as the sigmoid colon but not much more, therefore, sometimes a higher cleanse is needed to flush the colon of toxic undigested waste and sometimes even chemical toxins. An bigugly it is fantastic that you got through your addiction with only ocassional constipation – keep moving along the health continuum and stay well.
