Rep. Bearden’s consulting efforts exist ‘in minds of [Carrollton's] children’
June 22, 2009 at 10:19 am by Thomas Wheatley in NewsLast Monday, news broke the City of Carrollton had paid state Rep. Tim Bearden, R-Douglasville, nearly $100,000 in consulting fees to assist the city’s police department since late 2005. City officials and the state lawmaker said the deal was based on a “verbal agreement” and no documents exist to show the fruits of Bearden’s labor. Questions were raised.
After Carrollton blogger D. Tim Clark broke the story, the local newspaper Carrollton Times-Georgian picked it up and printed snippets of an “open letter” city officials released about the deal. The piece is largely sympathetic to the Bearden arrangement, which city officials call a cost-saving measure. This bit was beautiful:
There is no written documentation of the work Bearden’s done, Garner notes in the letter, so much as the work product exists “in the minds of our children, our citizens and our community who have been educated or participated in a community policing program.”
Awww.

So it’s basically like: “Even if we had any tangible proof that he’s done a lick of work for the city, we wouldn’t show it to you because it’s classified.”
Where can I get a sweetheart deal like that?

Ending up in the minds of our children? The citizens of Carrollton, Georgia are pretty tired of local politicians doing things to our children.
Wayne Garner’s Brother-In-Law, Carrollton Councilman and Carroll County Warden Rusty Gray, resigned at the beginning of the month for having an `improper relationship with a minor.`
Everyone knows Garner came up with this deal to pay Republican Tim Bearden with city money, AND Bearden freely took the money, 44 payments so far.
Jeez! Enough is enough!
Rusty Gray did the honorable thing and resigned. Garner, Bearden and City Manager Casey Coleman need to do the same.
Resign NOW!
