Tiffany Brown joins mayoral race!

June 30, 2009 at 10:12 am by Andisheh Nouraee in News

The competition for fifth place in Atlanta’s mayoral race just got hotter!

Tiffany Brown “launched” her campaign this morning in the form of a web site, BrownForAtlanta.com.

This is Brown’s second “run” at Atlanta’s highest elected office. Brown, then 25, “ran” for mayor in 2005, citing her 3.22 undergrad GPA as one of her main qualifications.

Brown has been commenting on the mayoral race since March using the Twitter pseudonym @nextatlmayor.

  1. cityzen Says:

Tiffany’s ‘issues’ show her blissfully unaware of Atlanta’s budget crunch. Like Mary Norwood, she proposes more and better-paid cops with no money to fund them. She has noticed vacant condos, though, and plans to protect developers from themselves by banning new construction.

Atlanta is still waiting for a credible candidate.

  2. Benjy Says:

She wants to create a Police Advisory Commission to examine alleged police misconduct. How’s that different from the citizen’s commission that already exists in the wake of the Katheryn Johnston shooting?

  3. waldo Says:

As long as Atlanta has a black mayor, the city will never grow to what it should be.

  4. cityzen Says:

It’s not about race. It’s about integrity. Not one of the white council members has lifted a finger to protect residents’ interests or ask tough questions during Franklin’s two terms. They’ve gone along with every TAD, all ADA’s shenanigans, the Wayne Mason ripoff, the pension giveaways, the water-sewer contracting blank checks. Felicia Moore (black) is the closest we’ve had to a people’s tribune.

  5. MaxieGrrrl Says:

You nailed it, cityzen. Waldo what planet are you from, really? Crooks and liars come in all colors. Or haven’t you been watching the GOP lately?

  6. Rule .303 Says:

That’s Dr. Tiffany Brown. Wow, she has an online Ph.D. degree. SERIOUSLY?

And she insists on being referred to as a Doctor. SERIOUSLY?

I didn’t realize you could get a Ph.D. degree from the Internets?

Maybe quality education should be in her platform?

  7. Waldenite Says:

    Rule.303,

I don’t believe Dr. Brown insists on being referred to as a Doctor.
I believe that she has earned the right to be called Doctor. Do your fact finding or if you are qualified, do some research to further your knowledge and understanding of the stringent requirements a Doctoral student has to meet. Then makes the appropriate inquiries as to what differences exist before passing judgment. Anytime you want to build on another topic feel free to let me know.

I suggest you inquire about her plans in the education space as I am quite sure that you will learn something.

  8. Dr. G. Says:

Rule .303, based on the comments on this page, I am literally SHOCKED at the level of ignorance that is representing the great city of Atlanta. It appears to me that you all are concentrating on the wrong things. It makes me proud to be a Mississippian because we honestly do not have this kind of mess.

As for Dr. Brown’s education, I believe that your statement is unwarranted and totaly ignorant. Walden University is a fully accredited institution. Its accrediting body is the exact same one that accredits U of Chicago, Northwestern, and Notre Dame. The professional accrediting bodies are the same ones that accredit these same schools as well. So when you question the validity of Dr. Brown’s degree, you also question the credentials of the highly qualified faculty who taught her as well as the other institutions that hold the same accreditation(s). You’re undermining the entire accredition process.

Based on your post, I have to wonder whether or not you completed a degree at all…especially since you mispelled Internet(s). There is only one Internet! And for you to not understand that there are various deliveries available to earn a quality education says a lot more about you, which even surprises me that you have access to post that comment. When is the last time you read The Chronicle of Higher Education? Have you ever read any of the research published by the Sloan Consortium? Do you even know what these things are?

I have worked with Dr. Brown while on campus at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities and can attest that she has a solid academic foundation. And to that end, I can say that she has a solid dissertation under her belt that will soon be published in ProQuest…. WHERE IS YOURS? Dr. Brown has been inducted in premier honor societies based on her scholastic achievement… what memberships do you hold?

Dr. Brown’s education and experience will make her a solid Mayor for Atlanta or any city for that matter. She is a public administrator and cares dearly about the success of Atlanta and its people.

    Best,

    Dr. G.

“It makes me proud to be a Mississippian because we honestly do not have this kind of mess.”

It’s true. If it weren’t for Atlanta the state of Georgia could really give Mississippi a run for its money.

  10. Lola Says:

And we all know now that there IS more than one internet. There’s also the intersex internet, right Dash?

  11. Dr. G. Says:

    To Rule.303 and Dash et al;

Rule.303…..I have a colleague who was on faculty at Northwestern University for 10 years. He informed me just this morning that Northwestern has begun a FULLY ONLINE MPPA program… which is the same area Dr. Brown earned her Ph.D. in. This same colleague also earned his Ph.D. from Walden University in PPA. Seems to me you’re a bit behind.

And Dash… I KNOW YOU’RE RIGHT… if it were not for Atlanta, the state of Georgia could definitely compete with Mississippi. I have another colleague who has a JD (a law degree for those of you who do not know what that is) and practiced law for many years before becoming a college professor. As an attorney, she actually used Creative Loafing as one venue to advertise her law practice. After communicating with her this morning she said that I shouldn’t worry too much because the only business she received from her advertisements on CL were from druggies and prostitutes… and that most of the people on here probably do not vote anyway. I suppose this explains Rule .303? Now, THAT’S FUNNY!

Anyway, she is a Ph.D. candidate at Walden University also.

I guess I won’t be spending too much time on here now that I know who may be plaguing the board.

    Good luck Dr. Brown!!!!

  12. Dash Riptide Says:

“And we all know now that there IS more than one internet. There’s also the intersex internet, right Dash?”

Why does everyone always ask me that?

  13. Joeventures Says:

Of course there is more than one Internet!

    Pshaw.

  14. Dash Riptide Says:

No spoilers, please. Once the internet trilogy is complete I plan to get the boxed set on Blu-Ray.

  15. George P. Burdell Says:

    I can haz mayor seat??!?

More mediocre candidates for our doomed city….

  16. soon to be PhD.... Says:

    Dr. G,

You were on point with everything that you stated except for the fact that there are two internets unfortunately. There’s internet 1, which we all use, and a lesser known internet 2 which is utilized by particular research universities and select government agencies.

I just thought I would clear that up. However, the poster that you sited probably was being a bit facetious with his/her comment and was not directly indicating what I just stated.

    Thanks and take care…
