Zell Miller: Obama should be restrained with ‘Gorilla Glue’

July 16, 2009 at 4:20 pm by Andisheh Nouraee in News

From the AJC:

Obama, “our globe-trotting president,” Miller said, “needs to stop and take a break and quit gallivanting all around. I think (chief of staff) Rahm Emanuel ought to get some Gorilla Glue and put it in that chair in the Oval Office and say ‘Sit here awhile.’”

Ugh.

How will Zell top that asshole comment – pun half-intended – and shame his state still further? Because, if past trends hold, Zell will manage to say or do something more despicable still.

  2. Dash Riptide Says:

I hear the first draft of that speech involved Emanuel tying Obama to a post of some sort so he could hold him still and maybe whip some sense into him. So Zell’s trying, you know. Baby steps.

That would be a great idea… ILL GET THE GLUE.

It’d be nice if all these people would take the time to get off their knees, wipe off their mouth, and realize that this president is spending outta control. There is not plan to pay for all this. We are in serious debt as it is (thanks W.) The savior is just making it worst. Don’t believe me, check out the latest CBO report – “Under current law, the federal budget is on an unsustainable path, because federal debt will continue to grow much faster than the economy over the long run.”

Yeah, current law. Wait until we add on Stimulus 2 (lets hope for a trilogy), healthcare “reform”, and the oncoming retirement of the baby boomers and we are screwed.

Have any of you ever gotten off you knees and thought about how we are gonna pay for all this?

  4. Tiki Says:

Forgot the link to CBO site – http://cboblog.cbo.gov/?p=328

  5. atlpaddy Says:

I guess we’ll pay for it the same way we’re paying for Iraq and all those Republican war time tax-cuts.

  6. DaleC Says:

atlpaddy is right, $ 800 billion or so is exactly the sam as $ 9 or 10 TRILLION.

  7. dead_lancelot Says:

    DaleC,

He said “the same way”, which I would interpret as “paid by our taxes, salary cuts/freezes, inflation, etc”. Besides, if you’re going to quote numbers as evidence, it helps to provide sources.

  8. wesleywhatwhat Says:

    “get off your knees”???

what’s really on your mind, chief?

  9. Annie Says:

Zell is an idiot. No, he gets no slack and is not trying. We are to believe that he can run a campaign, organization, government, etc., but is too stupid to write or approve a non-racist speech. Whatever I liked about him before, is gone. He’s an idiot, and if Americans don’t start to look at the big picture, and be glad that Obama is globetrotting so he can know first hand what he’s dealing with, instead of through surely biased by fellow idiots like Zell in government who wrote reports he is to rely upon, we are all in trouble. Fly Obama, fly! Shut up Zell, and others too shortsighted to see what is happening. 2012 and counting!

  10. DaleC Says:

Dead Lancelot – my point is that you don’t pay a small debt the same way you pay off a huge debt, especially when you are not cash flow positive.

The numbers are well known enough to anyone paying attention (and taxes) that they really shouldn’t require foot notes.

  11. DaleC Says:

what part of this is racist? I thought we are in a post-racial America now that we have elected The One?

  12. dead_lancelot Says:

Dale C, I was merely hoping you’d educate the audience on the War numbers and Obama’s spending. And on the virtual difference between the (small) money spent on a war in a third world country vs. the (huge) money being spent here at home.

  13. DaleC Says:

If the “audience” doesn’t know, they are beyond my help.

BTW, to which salary cuts/freezes do you refer?

  14. Stacey Hopkins Says:

Oh, Zig Zag Zell, you just want a share of the limelight! Being that he hails from N. Georgia – not an area known for its racial diversity – I would expect a bit of racial ignorance and insensitivity – but as a Black woman, I honestly think that there’s being much too much made of this.

I never thought I’d ever come to the defense of Zig Zag, but I really think he meant the comment in the context of using a very popular adhesive – no more, no less. Now, he could have used another brand, granted, but what I find fascinating is the responses from mostly Whites that are calling this a racist statement, when only a few months ago should Blacks had expressed such outrage, we would have been labeled overly sensitive and should lighten up. As a child of the civil rights movement and subject of incidents of blatant racist acts, this doesn’t merit a blip on the radar.

I apprciate the heightened senstivity to racist comments, however we need to keep our heads about it lest we eliminate many of the words in the English language. Miller might indeed harbor racist thoughts and attitudes, but I just don’t see it here. Everyone needs to just calm down a bit but should continue to be vigilant. We’re coming along in race relations in America, but still have quite a way to go and requires all to overcome.

  15. dead_lancelot Says:

DaleC, it’s ok. You’re arrogant, I get it.

    My salary freeze, for example.

  16. katrina Says:

Oh you want to jone zell miller? While you want to associate President Obama with gorilla’s, you must be the cousin looking like an old gray haired wrinkled up orangutan and you don’t have a tail – but one thing is for sure – YOU’RE A STRAIGHT IDIOT!
