Perception of CrimeWatch®: Boxer killed, councilman carjacked
July 26, 2009 at 12:52 pm by Andisheh Nouraee in NewsThe AJC reports boxer Vernon Forrest was shot and killed at 11:00 P.M. last night during a shoot-out that began after Forrest was robbed when he stopped at the Chevron on Whitehall Street (one block south of Castleberry Hill). The perceived killers have not been arrested.
21 hours earlier*, less than three miles away, Atlanta councilman Ceasar Mitchell was carjacked at gunpoint. His car was recovered, but the perceived carjackers haven’t been caught.
Neither the Mayor’s office nor the police department have issued any public statements** about these perceived crimes as neither involved a baseball bat metaphor.
(*Correction: The original post incorrectly stated when Mitchell was carjacked. Thanks to eagle-eyed CL reader S. Dekalb Voter for catching the error.)
(**See comments below for mayor’s statement.)

City Council candidates would also like you to know they aren’t immune to PofC.

“Neither the Mayor’s office nor the police department have issued any public statements…”
And guess what? Neither the Mayor nor the Chief of Police will issue a statement. Period. Neither of them care one bit what happens on the streets of Atlanta. Shirley checked out long ago and Pennington… Well I have no idea what he is thinking… If he is thinking at all. This city has been left to its own device by our “leaders” when it comes to crime.

Ceasar was carjacked Saturday AM, not Sunday. Do you do any of your own research or do you just regurgitate stuff from other news sources? Where is your editor?
This is more like the perception of journalism.

Thanks for catching the error, S. Dekalb Voter. I updated the post.

The mayor has now released a joint statement with City Council President Lisa Borders about the Forrest murder:
“Our deepest sympathy and prayers go out to Vernon Forrest’s family in light of his untimely death this weekend. This intolerable criminal behavior is yet another tragic reminder to all of us at City Hall that we must work together to find the resources to support APD and community as it works to restore law and order to our streets. Making Atlanta safe must be our top priority.”

Thanks for the mention, but I think you get my underlying point.
As a side note, am I the only one who thinks it’s strange Shirley and Lisa are doing joint statements?
