Tennessee, can you spare your river for thirsty, friendly Georgia?
July 28, 2009 at 8:42 am by Thomas Wheatley in NewsPretty please? Wouldn’t it be nice to do the right thing and help metro Atlanta continue to sprawl? I mean, we did kind of pass legislation in 2008 saying we’d look into redrawing the border so we could tap that mighty river you got there. We could just avoid all that red tape and work it out, right?
Tennessee officials still have no intention of letting Georgia tap into the Tennessee River, despite a federal court ruling last week that set a three-year clock ticking for Atlanta to find a new water source.
“Tennessee officials are not rethinking this issue,” said Gov. Phil Bredesen’s spokeswoman Lydia Lenker on Monday.
$@%#! Oh well, maybe we can just learn to conserve the water we have. Wait, what? $@%#!

Maybe Georgia should join Texas and secede from the US? We could take with us our rightful land (i.e, the “correct” border, versus the one we have been using for many decades). We could also appropriate Buford Dam and keep all the water, rather than having it to share it with Florida and Alabama. Plus, Georgia’s infrastructure (e.g. schools) would no doubt prosper when left to our own legislature rather than having to follow mandates and rulings from the federal government and far-away judges.

It’s not Tennessee’s water. It’s our water.

Icarus: Please be more specific. It’s not “our” water. It’s Atlanta’s water!

How the heck did my tap water get in Tennessee’s river?
