Rep. Hank Johnson worries island may tip over

Congressman thinks islands are like big canoes.

After nearly two years without a challenger as the Georgia Congressman most likely to blurt astonishingly stupid things in Congress, Athens Republican Rep. Paul Broun may now have a challenger.

Last week, DeKalb’s Democratic Congressman Hank Johnson told the U.S. Navy’s Pacific Fleet Commander he’s worried about a proposed increase in the number of U.S. military personnel on the Pacific island Guam.

What specifically does Rep. Johnson fear?

“My fear is that the whole island will become so overly populated that it will tip over and capsize.”

Watch the video (the “tip-over” part starts at the 1:20 mark) if you think I’m kidding. Be sure to note the hand and body gesture Johnson makes to illustrate what he means by capsize and tip over.

All there is to say is, wow.

In the meantime, will somebody please tell Rep. Johnson that islands don’t tip over unless the entire population of the island suddenly crowds onto one side.

(Capsized hat to Chris at Peach Pundit for bringing this to our attention.)
