The Series Cynic: Braves do the unthinkable (not really)

Ben Bussard takes another cynical look at the Braves and their three-game sweep of the Houston Astros this past weekend.

Cynicism Nutshell: Well it’s over. The Braves’ nine-game losing steak that hung over the baseball fans of Atlanta like an ominous, black cloud for the past week and a half finally ended with a three-game sweep of the equally abysmal Houston Astros.

No longer does Atlanta claim to have the league’s worst offense as the Braves saw their team batting average jump 10 points to .238---now the fourth-lowest in the National League.

Atlanta outscored the Astros by a score of 21-4 over the weekend thanks to a 5-for-10, 2 homer, 6 RBI series from rookie of the generation year candidate Jason Heyward.

Unfortunately, a return to winning means a return to overtly-pessimistic analysis so here we go.
