David Byrne rips Atlanta, newspapers rip chamber... and more

Odds and ends to coast you into the evening, dear reader

So many interesting things, so few hands and computers to type about all of them. Here’s a quick rundown on various local goings-on you should check out. Some are from yesterday, most are from today. Regardless, they’re worth a gander.

  • David Byrne, who visited Atlanta last week to participate in the Congress for the New Urbanism’s 18th annual conference, wasn’t too impressed with our city’s urban design. If you want a nice place for biking and getting around without a car, he writes, you might be better off living in Athens or Savannah.

  • The Georgia Chamber of Commerce today barred members of the press from its gubernatorial forum at Reynolds Plantation. The newly organized Georgia Newspaper Army of Destruction raised holy hell, and rightly so. (Kudos to GOP candidate Eric Johnson’s spokesman for slipping in a totally obvious reference to his boss’ “jobs” mantra in a comment about the chamber’s decision.)

?

  • Mayor Kasim Reed announced three finalists for the city attorney job. One of them — Hakim Hilliard — is a former Atlanta assistant city attorney. He’s now a partner at McKenna Long and Aldridge.

?

  • Jim Galloway reminds Erick Erickson, the RedState founder and CNN contributor, that the Internet never forgets.

  • And finally, just visit Pecanne Log. The Mysterious Christa© has been prolific.
