There is so much misinformation about the opposition to the plans for 10th & Monroe and the Subarea 6 Master Plan. For purposes of the supposed traffic analysis that was done for Subarea 6, ABI assumed that 4,889 units would be built between Ansley Mall and the Home Depot shopping center. ABI has also stated that this will DOUBLE the density of Subarea 6. The plan calls for a 15 story building at Ansley Mall surrounded by 5 - 9 story buildings, 5 - 9 story buildings at Amsterdam Mall, 1 - 4 stories at the Midtown Fit stip mall at 10th & Monroe, and 5 - 9 stories at Midtown Promenade (Trader Joes and the movie theater) and the Home Depot shopping center. And of course, 8 stories on Piedmont Park at 10th & Monroe and 4 story buildings on land that is zoned single family that is directly behind single family homes. It is crazy to say that the development at 10th & Monroe is needed for the BeltLine given the high amount of density proposed all around that area from Amsterdam Mall to directly across the street from that corner! This is not a NIMBY issue. The Redevelopment Plan, which was voted on by City Council to create the BeltLine TAD, calls for this land to be open space. Furthermore, it says that development within 150 feet of single family homes should be limited to 5 stories. Thus, the plan for 8 stories at 10th & Monroe violates the specific provisions of the Redevelopment Plan for open space and the general height guidelines in the plan. In addition, it goes against the 4 story limit for development on the Midtown side of Piedmont Park. Another disingenuous argument is that development is needed on the Park side of 10th & Monroe to support traffic and intersection improvements at this corner. Why can't the development that's proposed on the other side of 10th & Monroe (across from the Park), and all of othe other development proposed for Subarea 6, fund these improvement?

ANY school owned by Career Education Corporation (CEC) is not worth going to; I worked for these idiots and at the end I told students to "run" the other way. They are bad news and once they have your money, they hang you out to dry.

Everyone who ever went to this school should sue them.

Always remember that it is better to go to a school that is regionally accredited than nationally accredited.

I always have heard that when help is needed and seconds count, the police are minutes away. I guess in a lot of cases, hours is more like it. Folks, get and learn to use guns. Get a GFL. The police cannot protect you, and they seem to be unable to even take the fucking police report after the fact in a timely manner. As has always been the case to some degree, but especially now, your safety is in YOUR hands. So quit being chickenshits and buy a gun. (The criminals already have theirs, so you're just evening the score.) Not to sound like a gun nut, but I promise you that bump in the night is not nearly as horrifying and scary when you've got a 12-gauge or a .38 handy...if you don't want to actually have to shoot anyone, get a pump shotgun...and rack the slide to chamber a shell--even the most hardened, drug-addicted criminal will most likely hit the trail posthaste. Something daunting about that sound.

VC: remember when this happened: http://www.gbmnews.com/articles/2056/1/Atlanta-Police-Target-Black-Gay-Leather-Party/Page1.html

Black leather party in midtown raided by undercover police who acted extremely disrespectfully but made no arrests? No, I didnt think you remembered it. Because there was no protest, no swelling of support. Why not?

ALL the white bars in the area 'work with the neighbors.' ALL the black bars in the area DONT work with the neighbors. If it were just one bar, I would assume it was the bars fault and it was a coincidence that it happened to be a black bar. But when its systematic, and its EVERY black bar in the area has problems with neighbors whereas NO white bars in the area have problems, you have to suspect maybe its a little deeper than a coincidence.

Justin... You are talking about the bar patrons and staff. THEY are the ones who rallied behind the bar when the neighbors complained and they worked to fix the problems. Plus, the rally that was recently held at the Eagle was NOT for keeping the bar open, but protesting an absurd abuse of police power.

If the patrons and staff of Bulldogs think that they are being singled out unfairly, then they should rally and prove us all wrong. I have yet to see that.

And as far as the neighbors vs. The Eagle, that bar went out of its way to limit the noise and problems that occurred around their premises. Bulldogs REFUSES to work with its neighbors.

You gotta love Shirley Franklin calling this a "publicity stunt." After all, for much of this fall, publicity stunts in the form of "tributes" have been staged in her honor by former city of Atlanta employees whom she placed in plum outside jobs once they failed in their city jobs; current city contractors; and those members of the development community who have been most favored by her administration.
