About Soapbox: Atlanta’s community forum
Soapbox is an online forum for vigorous debate on metro Atlanta’s past, present and future. Soapbox columns don’t necessarily reflect the views of Creative Loafing or even any particular Creative Loafing staff members, but we do seek for them to focus on topics that we believe are important to our community.
We seek columns that are provocative but that at the same time shed more light than heat on their topics. Writers for Soapbox range from well-known experts and community leaders to members of the general public. We welcome and encourage submissions although we can’t guarantee that your column will be published.
Soapbox columns appear on Creative Loafing’s Fresh Loaf blog and on the blog’s special Soapbox site. Columns may occasionally be published in the print edition of Creative Loafing.
Guidelines for readers submitting work to Soapbox:
- We prefer text/Word document attachments sent as an attachment to the soapbox@creativeloafing.com e-mail. If you have attached a document, please also copy and paste the article in the body of the e-mail.
- We publish columns on local topics or tied to local stories only.
- Please include your first and last name, which will run in the byline of the article. No pseudonyms are allowed.
- We’ll need to contact you to confirm you’re the author of the article and to receive permission to post the article on Soapbox. Please include your e-mail address, mailing address and phone number (for our records and so that we have a way to contact you).
- The work you submit must be your original work – not work that was published elsewhere or written by someone else. (Exceptions would be columns you have written for newsletters or professional journals. However, we need to know this to give attribution. Other exceptions already have been requested – no problem, but let us know.)
- Articles in which the writers are seeking publicity for business purposes or those that are potentially libelous or defamatory will not be considered.
- Upon submitting a column, writers must disclose any potential conflicts of interest that they might face or potential appearances of a conflict of interest.
- We prefer columns that are shorter than 750 words, although we’ll consider columns of up to 1,000 words.
- If you have a photograph related to your article, you may attach it as a jpeg file.
- Under special and rare circumstances some of these guidelines may be waived at the discretion of the editor.
