Jim Martin unveils new campaign commerical, features Max Cleland

Tuesday, September 9th, 2008

Jim Martin, the former state lawmaker itching to unseat U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss, on Nov. 4, released his newest campaign commercial. It features former Sen. Max Cleland, the war veteran Chambliss defeated in 2002 after a bitter campaign.

In it, Cleland says Martin — himself a former U.S. Army intelligence officer — is the kind of leader the country needs. (That’s also a bit of a jab at Chambliss, who dodged service in Vietnam because of a bum knee.)

Watch it below.

Jim Powell’s PSC court case postponed

Monday, August 4th, 2008

Public Service Commission candidate Jim Powell says his appeal that was originally scheduled for today at 3 p.m. in Fulton County Superior Court has been postponed. Judge John Goger has recused himself because he’s a former law partner of Powell’s attorney. Powell says a new judge will be assigned later today and the appeal should be heard sometime later in the week.

Powell is contesting Georgia Secretary of State Karen Handel’s removal of his name from the July 15 primary ballot. He was granted a stay the day before the election and garnered 85 percent of the vote.

Voter guide to the Aug. 5 Georgia primary runoff

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

Georgia’s primary runoffs are a week from today. And early voting takes place though this Friday at a handful of voting stations.

The stakes are high — higher maybe than they were in July 15 primary. The big three races inside the Perimeter — Democratic contests for U.S. Senate, DeKalb CEO and Fulton sheriff — all went into runoffs. And one of the runoffs (actually, most likely two) will determine who takes office in January.

A quick, comprehensive Loafer’s guide to the runoffs comes after the jump. We’ve endorsed in bold where we figured we knew enough about the race to offer good advice. (more…)

Fresh Loaf liveblogging tonight

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

I’ll be liveblogging tonight on the primary results — unless I manage to screw up using the software (because Thomas won’t be here to hold my hand). Should be fun … from Manuel’s … maybe from a couple of the candidates’ HQs.
