TWISTED TOYLAND SALE: “This one’s from our Abu Ghraib Collection.”

Here’s a rule of thumb we at CL follow: Any holiday gift sale with the phrase “no genitals showing” in its ad is worth at least stopping by – if not to shop, then at least to browse, people-watch and write about.

So on Saturday, we stopped by Twisted Toyland, a fetish gear sale benefiting the National Leather Angel Fund, which raises money for needy members of the BDSM community. Vendors hawked a wide range of sex-related knickknacks, from vibrators and dildos to handcuffs and whips, the latter of which were demonstrated with skill and gusto by people who liked to be addressed as master.

SOUTHEAST LEATHERFEST AT HOLIDAY INN DECATUR: The things people will do for free continental breakfast.

If you ever wanted to tie a rope around your partner’s scrotum, but weren’t sure which knot to use, you almost certainly would have enjoyed SouthEast LeatherFest, a weekend-long BDSM convention at the Holiday Inn in downtown Decatur. Much of the program was dedicated to the technical side of dominance and submission. Workshop topics included foot torture, electric shock, “erotic knife play” and, of course, proper leather care. The LeatherFesters weren’t big on PowerPoint. Instead, the workshops were hands-on.

The instructor of the long-whip class actually left his female volunteer’s bottom bloodied. We might have attended the scrotum-tying workshop had the LeatherFest website not suggested that single males might be recruited as volunteers.
