Last week, the grown-ups running Georgia’s House of Representatives voted to stop the state from issuing license plates bearing the mascots of colleges and universities from outside Georgia.

The move came just two weeks after an AJC report raised the specter of Florida Gators commemorative plates, and three weeks after the House cried like colicky babies about how UGA didn’t get to play for the national championship this year.

Tomorrow, Georgia’s House of Representatives will vote on a state constitutional amendment that will make English the state’s official language. Never mind that English is already Georgia’s official language, by law.

The resolution, HR 413, was introduced by Rep. Timothy Bearden, a Republican from, of all cities, Villa Rica.

WHEREAS whining like a spoiled little baby for a college football team is what passes for leadership at the Capitol, the Georgia House of Representatives passed a resolution today urging the NCAA to adopt a playoff system for college football.

Here’s HR-1034 in its shameful entirety:

A RESOLUTION

Urging the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) to implement a playoff system to determine a national champion in the sport of football; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the 2007 college football season was one of the most memorable of all times and involved outstanding plays, players, and thrilling games; and

WHEREAS, one of the goals of every football team going into a new season is to eventually be crowned the national champion and earn the admiration and respect of the whole country; and
