Fred Thompson endorses Chambliss, PAC hacks Obama’s travelocity account

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

Former presidential candidate Fred Thompson has endorsed U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss in his runoff race against Democratic candidate Jim Martin. Big surprise there, eh?

But there was also this in the e-mail announcement, sent to reporters by Chambliss’ campaign, by Will Andrews of Thompson’s PAC:

The Georgia seat is key to all of these battles and many more. Barack Obama is going to Atlanta to drum up support for his Democrat candidate. The unions and ACORN and every other left-wing group is on the ground working night and day.

Night and day! Eating only Socialist food rations that we’ll all riot over on Jan. 21, 2009. Yo, Will! Let us know when Obama’s coming, please. Everyone here is saying it’s unlikely.

All I’m doing is saying

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee believes Earth is 6,000 years old and that gay sex was invented in 1968.

Such “moral clarity” is why he recently displaced actor Fred Thompson as the favorite presidential candidate of Georgia Republicans.

In other words, the only Republican more popular than the drawling, do-nothing actor is the aw-shucks know-nothing minister.

My fellow Georgians, this is what people are talking about when they call us bumpkins.

Fred Thompson, lawyer for terrorists

Tuesday, September 11th, 2007

Fred Thompson has a large and vocal following among Georgia Republicans. He’s a “real” conservative in the mold of Ronald Reagan, they say.

I wonder what, if any response, the FredHeads will have to news that Thompson sold his legal expertise to a terrorist responsible for bombing Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland.

From today’s NYTimes:

A little over three years after Pan Am Flight 103 blew up over Lockerbie, Scotland, Fred D. Thompson provided advice to a colleague about one of his law firm’s new clients: The man representing the two Libyan intelligence officials charged in the terrorist bombing.

And:

The firm was hired to provide guidance on the tense questions surrounding where the two men should be tried, Mr. Fleischaker said, and Mr. Thompson’s background as a former prosecutor, as well as his government relations experience — he had close ties to senior officials in the first Bush administration — “gave him insight on jurisdictional issues such as that.”

My question for Georgia’s FredHeads: What’s conservative and/or Reaganesque about selling your legal services to terrorists who blew up a civilian passenger jet packed with innocent Americans? Sen. Ted Kennedy’s wife RESIGNED HER PARTNERSHIP at her law firm when it accepted Libya as a client. Aren’t conservative Republicans looking for a candidate who’s at least as principled and tough on terrorism as Ted Kennedy’s wife?

The New Republic’s blog The Plank puts it in perspective:

In a political era in which the cost of a man’s haircut can be treated as though it were a window into his soul, you’d think people would be a little more curious what it says about Fred Thompson that he’d do work–even just 3.3 hours of it–for indicted terrorists.

Imagine what Limbaugh, Hannity and Boortz, as well as the Peach Pundit crowd, would be having with this story if Thompson were a Democrat.

Announcing an announcement

Friday, September 7th, 2007

Ripping a page from the Fred Thompson Book of Hype, Osama bin Laden has reportedly announced to someone that he plans to announce something.

Says CNN:

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden is about to appear in a new video, according to a banner ad posted by al Qaeda’s media production company, As Sahab.

Banner ad?

Production company?

Even international terrorism has gone showbiz.

He needs to update his MySpace page, though.

Atlanta blogs today: Weekend festivities

Monday, June 18th, 2007

I’m not quite sure where to begin with regard to Saturday evening at the ‘Roo. It featured three acts I was thrilled to be seeing at the festival, and none of them disappointed.

-Rich at Cable & Tweed went to Bonnaroo and has the pictures, MP3s and YouTube videos to prove it.

—–

You are a better father than I ever imagined you would be. You are good at so many things, but at being a father, you rock. Watching you with Audrey brings me so much joy. She adores you. I do too. We have the family I have always wanted.

-Angela at My Daily Struggle pays kind tribute to her husband with a list of things she appreciates about him, and some amazing photos.

—–

According to a Mason – Dixon poll conducted over the weekend, Fred Thompson has decisively won South Carolina’s conservative primary vote. Though he hasn’t formally announced his candidacy, former United States Senator Fred Thompson drew 25%, and America’s mayor polled in second at 21%.

-Seth Millican at Peach Pundit has an expansive definition of the word “decisively.” Thompson’s four-point lead was less than the poll’s margin of error. I guess Thompson’s sonorous voice makes everything he does seem decisive.

Fred Thompson fundraiser in Georgia

Monday, June 4th, 2007

Creative Loafing has learned that former U.S. Senator and not-yet-officially declared Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson will hold a fundraising event in metro Atlanta on July 6 at the home of Tom Bell. Bell is the chairman and CEO of Atlanta real estate developer Cousins Properties.

Thompson and Bell both worked for Republican U.S. senators from Tennessee early in their careers.

Thompson was former Sen. Howard Baker’s campaign manager in 1972 and co-chief counsel of the Senate Watergate Committee, on which Baker was the ranking member. Bell worked as chief of staff to former Sen. William E. Brock, who was defeated in 1976 in the wake of Watergate.

The Curly Sue star is expected to officially kick off his presidential campaign July 4.

Last month, Thompson easily won the presidential candidate straw poll at the Georgia GOP convention with 44 percent of the vote. Fellow undeclared candidate Newt Gingrich finished second with 18 percent, followed by Rudy Giuliani with 15 percent.
