Rick Sanchez’s, Britney Spears’ Twitter accounts hacked

Monday, January 5th, 2009

Rick Sanchez, the CNN anchor who is the living, breathing embodiment of truth and hope, says via Twitter that his account was hacked. Also targeted: President-elect Barack Obama (”What is your opinion on Barack Obama? Take the survey and possibly win $500 in free gas.”), Fox News (”Breaking: Bill O Riley is gay”) and Britney Spears (”HI Yall! Brit Brit here, just wanted to update you all on the size of my vagina. Its about 4 feet wide with razor sharp teeth.”) Valleywag says posters at 4chan are claiming credit for the Spears hack.

Below, the “hacked” Sanchez update. Honestly, I thought this would’ve cleared up some of his earlier tweets. (Kidding! We love ya, Rick! And kind tip of the sombrero to Waxmuseum for the find.)

After the jump, Sanchez’s tweets reacting to what happened. (”Something about crack? great??”)

Sarah Palin hacker’s Athens, Ga. connection

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

OMG y’all! Sarah Palin’s cybersecurity was like, totally breached, and all her e-mails and photos of aerial wolf hunting were stolen. And just like everything bizarre in this world, it turns out there’s a Georgia connection. It’s in Athens, the land of drunks, an Arch, and a bunch of bulldogs on street corners!

The Associated Press reports that the Internet anonymity service used by the person who hacked Palin’s Yahoo account is based in the college town I know, love and that I miss dearly.

From the AP:

Investigators were waiting to speak with Gabriel Ramuglia of Athens, Ga., who operates an Internet anonymity service used by the hacker. Ramuglia told the AP on Thursday he was reviewing his own logs and promised to turn over any helpful information to authorities because the hacker violated rules against using the anonymity service for illegal activities.

“If you’re doing something illegal and causing me issues by doing this, I’m willing to cooperate,” Ramuglia said. “Obviously this is the most high profile situation I’ve dealt with.”

Russian hackers bring battle to Atlanta’s cyber-realm

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

Since Russia invaded neighboring Georgia two weeks ago, Atlanta’s been the target of several cyberattacks from unidentified hackers who are allegedly operating out of the former Evil Empire.

“Take that, metropolitan planning organization!”

There was this barrage against Tulip Systems Inc., an Atlanta-based hosting company whose CEO, Nino Doijashvili, was born in that other Georgia. Tulip offered to host Georgia President Mikhail Saakashvili’s website after it was overwhelmed by hackers traced to Moscow and St. Petersburg (that’s Russia, not Florida.) According to a domain lookup, the company is still hosting the site.

Tulip Systems wasn’t the only Atlanta outfit to face a cyberattack. The Atlanta Regional Commission’s website was attacked on Friday, causing Google to post a warning to visitors.
