Liveblogging tonight’s runoff results
Tuesday, August 5th, 2008It seemed like only yesterday we liveblogged the July 15 primary results. Since then, we’ve also covered a rainstorm, the sun rising, and the dude stocking our vending machine — all in real time. Next week I’m going to start wearing a camera on my head and documenting my therapy sessions.
Tonight, however, we stick to politics. CL Editor Ken Edelstein and myself will hunker down at Manuel’s Tavern in Poncey-Highlands to document the results of the undecided races, including the U.S. Senate Democratic runoff, the Fulton County Sheriff’s race and the DeKalb CEO contest. I’ll be closely watching the Clayton County elections, as folks down there have a lot hinging on who comes out victorious. (Click here to read CL’s runoff voter’s guide.)
Join us here around 7 p.m. BECAUSE FREEDOM DEPENDS ON IT©.
U.S. Senate debate liveblog tonight
Tuesday, July 29th, 2008Are you eager to voice your thoughts about Jim Martin and Vernon Jones in a family-friendly forum? Maybe you’re angry about U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss? Fear not, fellow Georgians, you’re among friends here on Fresh Loaf.
I’ll be liveblogging tonight’s Georgia Public Broadcasting debate at 7 p.m. between the two Democrats vying to take a shot at incumbent Chambliss in November. There’ll be quips, comments, updates, tidbits and lots of super-scientific polls.
Drinking game rules are as follows:
- Each time Martin mentions one of his endorsements, take a shot. If he mentions one of his non-endorsements from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, former opponent Josh Lanier, or state Agriculture Commissioner Tommy Irvin, take two shots.
- Each time Vernon Jones mentions his work as DeKalb County CEO, take a swig of a strawberry daiquiri. You get bonus points if you’re eating smores.
- If Martin mentions Jones’ past two votes for President George W. Bush, funnel a Busch Light. If Jones says Martin voted for John Edwards, drink a National Enquirer. Don’t ask questions, just do it.
That’s all I have right now. There might be more. Regardless, skip your weekly capoiera practice early and stop by just before 7 p.m. If you don’t, I’ll be lonely and frightened, all alone in the Internet.

Georgia Primary Live Blog
Tuesday, July 15th, 2008Live blog from the Georgia General Assembly
Friday, April 4th, 2008Per the usual custom, the Georgia General Assembly waits ’til the last minute to pass a boodle of bills. “Guns in petting zoos” passed this morning, but we’ve still got a bunch of issues to resolve. We’re there watching. Feel free to chime in and send comments or questions.
Sine die liveblog
Friday, April 4th, 2008Yes, Christa, we can’t help ourselves! What better way to enjoy the cluster#$@! that is sine die, the 40th and final day of the legislative session, than with your cyberfriends? We’ll be heading to the Capitol in the next hour, setting up the proverbial shop, and hammering away at our keyboards while the House and Senate lob amendments back and forth at one another. If you work at one of those really cool places where you can curse and drink while you sit at your desk, please uncap the jug and take a swig every time one of our distinguished Golden Sleaze recipients stands before his or her colleagues.
Feel free to chime in and contribute your thoughts. If you want to watch the festivities, click here and select your chamber of choice.
Live blog of tonight’s Democratic debate
Thursday, February 21st, 2008Pre-debate analysis
Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-New York
Age: 60
Eyes: Two
Hair: Immovable
Nickname: Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-New York
Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois
Age: 46
Eyes: Dreamy
Hair: Afro-y
Nickname: Osama
What to look for from Sen. Hillary Clinton tonight:
– Expect her to point out that after 32 years of riding her husband’s coattails, she feels like America owes her a chance to run something by herself for a change. Maybe not in those words, though.
– Expect her to point out how she’s ready to take on the Republicans in the fall, even though she hasn’t yet proven herself capable of taking on Obama yet.
– Expect her to cite her colossal botching of health care reform in the 1990s as a reason to trust her on health care reform.
– Expect her to use words to explain that words don’t matter, and talk about how Obama is all talk.
What to look for from Sen. Barack Obama tonight:
– A well-tailored, single-breasted suit with either a red or blue tie
– Charm coupled with easy-going confidence
– Hope
– Change
– A statistic or hyperspecific detail about a policy initiative that will make at least one CNN analyst point out how he really dove into policy details tonight
Live blogging tonight’s Democratic debate
Thursday, February 21st, 2008
CL Editor Ken Edelstein, Senior Writer Andisheh Nouraee and I will be watching the idiot box tonight and typing away while Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama spar off in a battle to determine who will rule the most powerful country of all time for the next four years. Join us for “change,” “hope” and “experience.” Plus, some more “change.” Maybe a little “solution” in there, as well.
We’ll start the blogging experience around 7:32 p.m. The debate starts at 8 p.m. on CNN. Andisheh will blog from home with his fellow anarchists, Ken will be hunkered down at the top-secret clubhouse where the liberal media cognescenti gather, and I will be with the far-left lunatics who converge on Manuel’s Tavern in Poncey-Highland for beer and politics. Or in other words, it’ll be just another Thursday night at Manuel’s.
We’re stealing a page from Wonkette and some dude who writes about movies, and laying down the guidelines for the official Feb. 21 Democratic Debate Drinking Game! After the jump, the rules. Follow at your own risk.

Liveblogging Thursday’s Democratic debate
Monday, February 18th, 2008
Are you tired of always watching the debates alone and yelling at the television set? Your cat looks at you confused, wondering why its food-provider is cursing at the thing he/she always rubs its face against? Well, you might not be, but we sure as hell are! So we take it to the Series of Tubes!
Just like we did on Super Tuesday, CL Editor Ken Edelstein and I — and maybe some other CL folks — will be live-blogging CNN’s Democratic debate on Thursday, Feb. 21. The shindig is co-sponsored by Univision, which means we’ll finally be able to put to rest the age-old question about Anderson Cooper and Jorge Ramos. You know, how they’re the same person. What did you think I was talking about?
Details on drinking-game rules, dress code, etc., will follow in the days to come. But be sure to visit here and chime in. We don’t have to go through this dreary process alone, people.
Live blog on Grammys at Crib Notes
Saturday, February 9th, 2008Hey, y’all: Our colleagues over at the Crib Notes music blog are going to live-blog the Grammys Sunday night, starting at 8 p.m. My understanding is that if I put the words Amy Winehouse, Kanye West and Soulja Boy at this point in my post, more people will pay attention to it.
Young Thomas Wheatley and I had a blast live-blogging Super Tuesday as the results rolled in. Now, Rodney Carmichael and Mosi Reeves figure they’ll get in the act.
So if you’re sitting at home, watching the TV Sunday night and become outraged at the grave injustice that a certain British artist wasn’t allowed into the U.S. to accept her awards, and your partner or your parent or your cat or your dog or your hamster doesn’t seem to give a damn, crank up your computer and go to Crib Notes. Rodney and Mosi will listen to all your troubles.
