CL’s election night coverage

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

Looking for an entertaining take on Atlanta’s elections? Good news! CL’s crack team of scribes will be out and about this evening in the City Too Busy to Vote. Scott Henry, Joeff Davis and myself will pile into the CL Mobile Meth Lab and risk life and limb to attend campaign parties, talk to people in suits, and keep you updated about results, rumors and skullduggery. CL News Editor Mara Shalhoup will hold down the fort and use the banhammer on people who post links to anonymous Web sites. It shall be a sight to behold, my friends.

Come back to Fresh Loaf around 8:30 and chime in. We’ll update the post throughout the night and pass along photos, videos and reports from campaign soirees. If you have photos or tips you’d like to share, shoot me an email.

The news networks will have regular election result updates. (C’mon, give Fox 5 another chance.) But if you want to watch polling precinct results from the comfort of your couch or barstool, check out the Fulton County Board of Elections’ website. They’ve got several online options you can use to monitor results. The Web site says it will only update every 15 minutes, but it has a nice scrolling feature that you can keep open on your browser.

If you’re looking for a drinking game … hmm … well, we really haven’t thought too much about that. Maybe take a shot every time a candidate says something vague like “move forward” or “change Atlanta?” You’ll be soused by 8:33 p.m. If Mayor Shirley Franklin grabs a mic and starts singing Rammstein’s “Du hast,” just turn that bottle upright and cut loose.

And if you haven’t already voted, there’s still time. Atlanta polls close at 8 p.m. Check out our earlier post if you need help finding out candidate info or where you can vote. Godspeed.

CL’s Obama inauguration live blog

Monday, January 19th, 2009

NOT FUNNY Aides recently told Obama about our unicorn cover

Tomorrow, CL staffers will hunker down in front of TVs and laptops to witness and participate in a historic moment in our nation’s history — Rick Warren leading a large crowd of people in  prayer. No wait, I mean, we’ll be liveblogging the inauguration of Barack Obama, the nation’s first African-American president!

If you’re stuck at work or sitting at home and looking for a place to comment, make snide remarks, celebrate, or even commiserate, this is it. We go live at 10:45 a.m. and plan to type until we’re so full of hope and change we’re inspired to become decent, law-abiding citizens.  We’ll have polls, funny photos of large men on mopeds, and maybe even some special guests. (Vernon Jones, call us back!)

It’s been a long eight years. And the next four — hopefully eight? — will be tough. But regardless of your politics, it’ll be a ceremony you won’t want to say you missed.

Election results liveblog tonight

Tuesday, November 4th, 2008

By the time Georgia polls close at 7 p.m. tonight, we here at CL will already be snookered on Diet Coke and moonshine, liveblogging in this digital Utopia about all the races up for grabs.

CL Editor Ken Edelstein will hold court at Manuel’s, staff writer Scott Henry will report from Jim Martin’s party at Park Tavern, and senior writers Mara Shalhoup and Andisheh Nouraee will monitor results and send dispatches from undisclosed locations. I’ll be in Stepford — oops, Buckhead — at the Intercontinental Hotel where the Georgia GOP is holding its fete. If you have any questions you’d like me to ask lawmakers, leave ‘em in the comments or send me an e-mail here.

Here’s a good list of key states to watch and what time their polls close. Here’s a neat-o map of the United States that shows where the presidential race stands. Here’s a place where you can win $20 of Andisheh’s money. And here’s a picture of a kitten dressed as a pirate.

Be sure to return and join us in a liveblogging celebration of America and insomnia. And if you haven’t done so already, go vote.

Election liveblog Tuesday night

Monday, November 3rd, 2008

Tomorrow night is poised to be one of the most historic in modern history as the liberals finally get on their way to stealing rich people’s paychecks.

And we’re liveblogging this monumental occasion! Various members of CL’s editorial team will be out and about raking muck, shoving voice recorders in politicians’ faces, and most importantly offering you — YOU! — a place to gripe, rejoice, complain and opine as the results roll in to our giant headquarters.

We’re still working on the particulars — whoever draws the shortest straw has to hang out with the Nader-ites — but be sure to visit here tomorrow afternoon as we kick things off earlier than usual.

Thomas Wheatley: Will you live blog with me tomorrow night?

Oh, please. Please purty please.
