Black Lips

SHORT FUSE: Black Lips

Bands to watch out for at SXSW 2009 (Yeah, we wish were there too. Luckily, our A&E Assistant Wyatt will be updating us from the trenches. Before he left, he filled us in on the bands sure to make a splash at this year’s festival.)

Crack the Skye finds Mastodon on the haunt (Chad Radford explores the inspiration for Mastodon’s latest album.)

Live Review: Estelle and Solange bring fashionable soul front and center (DeMarco Williams reviews about outside-the-box performances of Solange and Estelle.)

Paul’s Boutique revisited (Twenty years after its original release, the Beastie Boys’ classic takes Chad on a nostalgic ride.)

Black Lips play Ubangi benefit show at 529 (The Black Lips are in town to support Bobby Ubangi, a.k.a. B Jay Womack, who was diagnosed last year with stage IV small cell lung cancer.)

J*DaVeY

J*DaVeY

Mastodon plays free in-store at Criminal (Atlanta’s favorite metal sons hit up Criminal on the day their latest release, Crack the Skye, drops for the masses.)

Thrill Jockey announces Record Store Day compilation LP (Keep showing your local record store some love, the flipside artwork on this limited-release LP paints a sad picture of what will happen if you don’t.)

Subsonics return on Friday the 13th (Head over the the Star Bar tonight for the band’s triumphant return to the stage.)

Tealights pay a visit to Haveyouheard.net (These sessions are amongst the first documented looks at what the band has in store.)

Interview: J*DaVeY brings testosterone and vomit to ATL, Sat. March 14 (The genre-mashing, L.A.-based duo is kind of a big deal.)

Randy Bewley

Pylon guitarist Randy Bewley R.I.P (Heartbreaking news from the tragic car accident.)

Friday Funnies: ‘I’m on a boat’ (It’s good to see T-Pain has a sense of humor, but could it hinder him from being taken seriously?)

Where you at? ‘Atlanta Bitch’ — and thoughts on how we rep our city (Geography: Hip-hop’s least common denominator.)

Spin Cycle: Top-selling CDs at Atlanta’s independent record stores (From Criminal to Sound Shop.)

Neurosis, Mastodon et al rock Scion fest (Severed pig heads mounted on spikes?!? I smell a metal concert.)

Mastodon’s Brent Hinds gets in another fight

Monday, September 22nd, 2008

king_khan1.jpgBe sure to visit our music blog Crib Notes for Chad Radford’s hilarious report on the altercation last Thursday between Mastodon guitarist Brent Hinds and garage rocker King Khan (pictured).

“He said ‘Do you know who I am? I am the greatest guitar player around,’ and punched me in the face.”

Most people who aren’t professional boxers manage to go through life without a having a single publicized fistfight. Hinds has now had three (1, 2, 3).

You’d think the greatest guitar player around might be more careful with his hands.
