Deal to seek Obama’s birth certificate, tap ‘birther’ vote

Thursday, November 5th, 2009

U.S. Rep. Nathan “One of the 15 Most Corrupt Members of Congress” Deal plans to make ample use of what remaining time he has left in Washington, D.C.

High on the list for the the Hall County Republican who’s also running for the GOP gubernatorial nomination? He and some congressional colleagues will kindly ask President Barack Obama to show a copy of his birth certificate.

Deal told his grand plans to Political Impact’s Tom Crawford during an online chat this morning.

Expecting the “Oxendine demands Obama birth certificate” press release in 5…4…3…

UPDATE: Invasion of the body snatchers! John Oxendine says Deal needs to back off the president. From his campaign:

“While I will lead the conservative charge to oppose President Obama on policy issues, candidates running for Governor need to understand that we have a responsibility to do business with the President of United States,” said John Oxendine. “For the sake of the taxpayers of Georgia, a high degree of respect is required and questioning his citizenship after he has been elected to the highest office in our land is disrespectful.”

Rasmussen: Oxendine still leads polls

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

Rasmussen reports that John Oxendine still leads candidates battling to become the GOP’s gubernatorial nominee. According a telephone survey conducted by the pollster, 27 percent of likely Republican primary voters favor the state insurance commissioner.

The Ox’s© lead, however, has shrunk by four points — and the number of undecided voters has grown. Rasmussen says many likely voters still haven’t formed an opinion about the candidates — which isn’t surprising for a contest that’s still 10 months away.

Here’s how the other pachyderms stack up:

Twelve percent (12%) prefer Georgia Secretary of State Karen Handel, while nine percent (9%) like Congressman Nathan Deal. Handel and Deal were tied at 13% each in the previous survey.

Rounding out the list is State Senator Eric Johnson, State Representative Austin Scott and conservative businessman Ray McBerry, each with three percent (3%) support among primary voters.

Seven percent (7%) favor some other candidate, and 35% are not sure. The number of undecided voters climbed four points from two months ago, suggesting that the race is far from decided.

That “other candidate” favored by seven percent of poll respondents could easily be a Libertarian. Pray to God it’s not this guy. Rasmussen will release details on the Democratic gubernatorial candidates tomorrow.

Huey Lewis — err, Mike Evans — calls for Pelosi’s resignation

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

Georgia Republican Congressional candidate Mike Evans — who knew? — has joined The World’s Greatest Catholic Newt Gingrich in calling for U.S. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi to resign over her comments about torture. STEP DOWN, MS. SPEAKER!

Evans, who wants to succeed gubernatorial candidate Nathan Deal in Congress, said in an unexpected and rather hilarious press release:

“It’s unbelievable that a leader trusted with so much power would attack the integrity of the Intelligence community for petty political posturing. Someone this irresponsible does not deserve to serve in a role that makes her second in line to the Presidency.

The person who’s first in line, however? Badass. Evans continues:

“If the voters of north Georgia trust me to be their voice in Congress, I will not sit idly by while radical liberals endanger our country and our families to cover up their hypocrisy.”

Evans is a former State Transportation Board chairman. He resigned from that post after he and Gena Abraham, then-state Department of Transportation commissioner, disclosed they had fallen in love. They later married and now reside in Forsyth County. Prior to Evans’ service on the transportation board, he served four terms as a state representative.

U.S. Rep. Nathan Deal announces run for governor

Friday, May 1st, 2009

The AJC’s Jim Galloway reports from Hall County:

Gainesville — In front of hundreds of supporters on the Hall County courthouse plaza, U.S. Rep. Nathan Deal announced for governor this morning, emphasizing his own experience as a state senator and 17-year member of Congress.

While he didn’t use the phrase, the 66-year-old Deal — the oldest of six Republicans now in the race — appears to be running as the adult in the room.

“If you want a governor who does his own thinking, writes his own speeches, and ties his own shoes, if you want all these things in your next governor, have I got a deal for you,” the congressman said.

Galloway has more here. Frankly, we want a DNA test to be sure we’re not getting tricked.

Politico: Perdue changes name, wants another run as governor

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

Politico today rehashes an Insider Advantage article that reports U.S. Rep. Nathan Deal, R-Ga., plans to run for governor. The news site — famous for WINNING THE AFTERNOON! — included a picture of this “Nathan Deal” character, who looks eerily similar to … holy shit.

Gov. Sonny Perdue, you must respect the state Constitution and bow out at the end of your term, sir! The citizens of Georgia will not sit idly by as you try to hoodwink us into another eight years!

Thanks to Jason Pye, this egregious powergrab was caught before it gained momentum.
