Election tidbit roundup

Thursday, November 5th, 2009

Some random observations:

  • Write-in candidate Dr. Tiffany Brown got in the neighborhood of 60 votes city-wide. That’s about one vote for each time the line “Vote for Tiffany Brown” was used in her catchy campaign rap song.
  • At the end of September, mayoral front-runner Mary Norwood had a huge campaign warchest. But over the past month, she burned through more than $600,000, spending more than Kasim Reed ($274,000) and Lisa Borders ($300,000) put together. As of Oct. 25, Norwood and Reed each had about $166,000 in cash on hand (although Reed had loaned his campaign about $100,000 of that amount).

OMG! This changes everything!

Write-in candidate for mayor Tiffany Brown — that’s Dr. Brown to you — has dropped her new campaign song and it’s fresh, dawgs!

“Vote for Tiffany Brown

Rumor is that Mary Norwood has worked up an emergency breakdance routine to counter Brown’s expected surge in the polls.

Fo’ shizzle my nizzle.

Write-in candidate’s ad includes footage of crimes in progress! Gadzooks!

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

Tiffany Brown faces an uphill battle if she wants to live up to her Twitter handle and become Atlanta’s next mayor.

As a write-in candidate, the Spelman College grad — whose 2005 mayoral campaign was, you guessed it, unsuccessful — won’t have the benefit of having her name on the ballot. That poses a problem for voters who’d like to vote for Brown, but might not remember how to spell her name. “Is it Tiffany with an ‘i?’” “Brown with a ‘q?’” These are very real questions millions of Americans ask themselves each day.

So like other candidates, Brown’s produced a commercial to raise her profile among voters. The spot will be shown on such cable channels as Bravo, the Food Network and ESPN2 until Nov. 3.

The ad contains LIVE SHOCKING FOOTAGE of crimes in progress, including a German DJ from the 1990s snatching someone’s purse as they get into their car. I, for one, am shocked that a cameraman would sit in garages and at local ATMs and wait for crimes to occur. Ms. Brown, you must report these acts to the appropriate authorities at once!

2. Inman Park Properties implosion leaves neighborhood landmarks in limbo (UPDATE: Foreclosure of Inman-owned Clermont Hotel has been delayed.)

Tiffany Brown joins mayoral race!

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

The competition for fifth place in Atlanta’s mayoral race just got hotter!

Tiffany Brown “launched” her campaign this morning in the form of a web site, BrownForAtlanta.com.

This is Brown’s second “run” at Atlanta’s highest elected office. Brown, then 25, “ran” for mayor in 2005, citing her 3.22 undergrad GPA as one of her main qualifications.

Brown has been commenting on the mayoral race since March using the Twitter pseudonym @nextatlmayor.
