Time and Place: Have a seat

This photo is from one of the more colorful dance pieces in Incarnation, Dance 101 Studio’s recent showcase. I love shooting dance in all its varied forms, but I’ve found that dance in silhouette is just so beautiful. And occasionally odd enough as to be amusing.

The Pic: Now whack it out

Monday, July 13th, 2009

Carrie Couch, an Atlanta dancer and dance teacher, teaches a whacking workshop at the Atlanta Street Dance Jam Pt 2. The day of workshops followed by a night of hip hop dance battles was hosted by Erupture Dance Tournaments on July 11 at the Take Hold dance studio in Miami Circle.

Photo of the Day: Life’s a beach

Friday, June 26th, 2009

Last week’s Decatur Beach Party was a chaotic, noisy nirvana in the midst of Atlanta’s landlocked summer. This event has been going on for more than 20 years and it’s a bigger hit than ever. It’s pretty clear why Decaturites and Atlantans from all over love it though — you can get down and dirty with your kids in the sand in between beers and funnel cakes. Or you can grab a lawn chair and watch the merriment from afar with only your toes in the sand. Any way you take your faux beaches, you’ve got to admit they’re fun.

Who knew fireplay, acrobatics and elaborate sets were requirements for being the best stripper you can be?

Time and Place: Backlight

Atlanta Ballet’s Dracula has always been my favorite ballet. So I pretty much could not have been more excited to have the opportunity to photograph the show’s rehearsal. It’s interesting how different it looks up close over viewing it from several rows back in the Fox Theatre. The dancers are impressive actors and the choreography is stunning in its complexity.

This shot is just one of many from the hour Joeff Davis and I spent at the Atlanta Ballet studios. Check out the photo gallery here. And go see the show. Seriously. You won’t regret it.
