Latest Snuggie partners with Weezer

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

First it was just a plain Snuggie. Then, Snuggie came out with a version for your dog. Now, Snuggie is partnering with Weezer as the band releases its latest album Raditude. It’s getting out of control, isn’t it?

For $30, you can get the new album and a standard Weezer Snuggie.

Or for $50, you can upgrade to the Safari Weezer Snuggie (with the album, of course).

And if that isn’t enough, check out the new infomercial, featuring members of Weezer as they “celebrate the art of cuddling.”

Toys ‘R’ Us releases 2009 Hot Toy List

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

Gah. Why didn’t they have cool toys like they do now when I was a kid? Here I thought my Barbie and her red convertible — which I had to push around the floor myself — were cool. Now you’ve got electronic gadgets coming out of the ying yang. I bet now Barbie drives her red convertible on her own … while texting.

Toys ‘R’ Us — which is still surprisingly around despite the corporate giant Wal-Mart and its lower priced toy aisles — recently released its 2009 Hot Toy List. You can read the expansive list here.

What I’m more interested is the Fabulous 15 picks — the retailer’s top picks for best new toys of the holiday season. See below (listed in alphabetical order). (Via ShoppingBlog.com)

Vat19.com: Gifts for those who have everything

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

Vat19.com is a site that sells … uhh … interesting merchandise. It pegs itself as a “purveyor of curiously awesome products.”

One fun (yet somewhat stomach-churning) item up for sale is the 5-pound gummy bear. Gummy bear lovers, this baby is equivalent to 1,400 regular-sized gummy bears and packs a mere 12,600 calories (sarcasm on that last point). It comes in flavors of BLUE, GREEN and RED. I’ve always loved RED myself. (Price is $29.95).

Other off-the-wall items up for sale on Vat19.com include Notebook and Pencil socks, Inside Out Champagne Glasses, and the Unzipped Glass Bag, a glass bowl that looks like a plastic sandwich bag.

I want the ‘Barefoot Alternative’

Tuesday, August 11th, 2009

During the cooler months, I can often be found running around the office without shoes on. My editor sometimes fusses at me, too: “Kim! Oh god, where are your shoes? You know you can get diseases from walking around here barefoot!”

Well, it seems there’s a product out there made just for me: Vibram Five Fingers: The Barefoot Alternative.

As a proponent for toe socks (I’ve got ‘em in every color), these “toe shoes” are right up my alley.

From their Web site:

FiveFingers footwear connects you to the earth and your surroundings in a way that is simply not possible in conventional shoes. It puts you in touch with the earth beneath your feet and liberates you to move in a more natural, healthy way. FiveFingers stimulate the muscles in your feet and lower legs to build strength and improve range of motion. Our customers report an increased sense of balance, greater agility, and visibly improved posture.

Have you tried out the Vibram Five Fingers Shoes yet? What do you think? (Here’s a review from Crunch Gear if you haven’t.)

Fashion creeps into world of lumberjacks

These Best Made Company axes make you want to look sharp.

From The Moment (NY Times):

They are forged and tempered in Maine by one of America’s oldest axe companies, then painted by Peter Buchanan-Smith, a design director for Isaac Mizrahi who started Best Made with Graeme Cameron, an environmental entrepreneur and fellow Canadian.

Do you have a Neela bag?

Friday, May 8th, 2009

Purchasing a Neela reusable bag is a fashionable way to both protect the environment and support a Charlotte-based, women-owned business. Plus, they’re cheap. See for yourself.

North Carolina natives and Charlotte-based eco-entrepreneurs Carla Manna and Renee Fischer describe success this way:

When friends and customers forget their Neela shopping bags in the trunk or at home, they say they won’t accept a plastic or paper stand-in at the store. Instead, they juggle their purchases as they walk to the car.

The pair launched their company in May 2008 with the goal of making it easier for people to do their part in saving the planet. Manna had a background in textiles – she cut her teeth in the area working for Springs Industries – and finance wiz Fischer had relocated to the Los Angeles area, where municipalities have banned the distribution of plastic bags in stores.

So they developed a line of shopping bags that are convenient to carry (they fold up into an envelope), attractive (with about a dozen patterns and colors) and cheap – $7 each, at the low end of the tote market.
