Upcoming: Couture Fashion Show at Halo
Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

When it comes to The Third Annual Runway for the Ballet, think Project Runway meets So You Think You Can Dance, but for a good cause. This event is a fashion and dance affair benefiting North Carolina Dance Theatre and will exclusively feature fashions from boutiques Black & Blue, eMartini, Scout and Molly’s, and ChezElle on the runway. Varied in with the fashion, excerpts from one of NC Dance Theatre’s signature performances, Innovative Works, will be showcased. This year is extra special due to the show only featuring smaller businesses, which provides exposure for them as it supports the NC Dance Theatre. In the words of the beloved (yet heavily accented) Heidi Klum: “You’re either in or you’re OUT.” For tickets or more information, visit www.runwayfortheballet.com/home.htm. $20-$65. 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Booth Playhouse, 130 N. Tryon St. 704-372-1000.

Whew. I think the air just went out in my office because after discovering this event, it sure did get hot in here.
Lingerie fashion shows are nothing new in Charlotte; there’s one at least once a month in some swanky nightspot, where the guys can drool over and the girls can envy scantily dressed models sporting sexy sleepwear.
At last, though, we ladies (and our gay husbands) can attend a fashion show that flaunts eye candy for us. And it’s for a good cause.
Coming up on Oct. 23, Brief, a gala benefiting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, will be held at Extravaganza Depot. Cocktails at 7 p.m., fashion show at 8:30 p.m.
Here’s the description from the site:
Introducing the newest, hottest, most provocative and sophisticated charitable endeavor to land in Charlotte in 2009. Brief!, the brainchild of Dan Mauney, is part cocktail party and part fashion show. All the models are male (get your tickets now ladies and gents) and all the fashions are of the brief variety . . . along with boxers, accessories, and various other contemporary designs for the discerning fan of the latest fashions.
$200 – VIP: front row seat, open bar
$50 – General Admission: seated, cash bar
$25 – General Admission: standing, cash bar
(limited tickets available)
Instructions:
Will Southern belles unite in September for a yearly hoedown at the old Charlotte Merchandise Mart? Not quite. The Southern Women’s Show is your opportunity to take in all things women love, even if you are a Yankee: cooking and lifestyle tips, shopping, fashion shows, and free stuff. Of course, you’ll probably be most excited to learn that Kate Gosselin of the Jon & Kate Plus 8 fame (and drama) will be a celebrity guest. Also, the number of vendors set to be at this shindig is crazy. Sept 17-20. $5-$9. The Park (formerly the Charlotte Merchandise Mart), 2500 E. Independence Blvd. www.southernshows.com/wch.
Also, from ScoopCharlotte.com:
Stop by the scoopcharlotte table next to the Fashion Stage at the Southern Women’s Show this Thursday at 1:30 or this Saturday at noon and pick up one of these super savings cards, good at ALL 8 of these stores. Plus coupon cards from Beautorium.com and Tizzerts, freebies and the chance to register to win a $50 shopping spree at the Charlotte store of your choice. It’s worth the drive!

People don’t often think of Charlotte as being a city where fashion thrives. Sure, Charlotte NC Fashion Week was no New York or Paris, but hey, the folks behind the 3-day event did their best, and I applaud them their efforts. Giving up-and-coming designers and boutiques, who probably couldn’t make it to New York last weekend, the opportunity to showcase their designs is stellar in my book. And while I may not have been crazy about all of the looks — ultra skinny jeans on men? Uh, no — there were some fantastic outfits and trends that I’m sure will be seen off the catwalk soon (and in stores near you).
