It’s 3 a.m., man, let’s create a recipe

Grant Central (451 Cherokee Ave., 404-523-8900) is about three blocks from my house, so I eat there more often than a person who needs to avoid carbs should. The kitchen here produces nightly specials that range from classics with a twist to the kind of stuff you expect a stoner to dream up at 3 a.m.
Sometimes, the dishes that sound like stoner fare actually turn out to be damn good. Shown here is a bowl of Cajun-seasoned shrimp over fettuccine with mushrooms, onions and broccoli with a spicy kinda-sorta-Alfredo sauce.
Other specials often feature mussels, Thai flavors and the occasional steak or pork chop. The only thing I routinely avoid is any dish made with polenta. The restaurant’s version is not appealing to me. I do wish the restaurant would develop some real desserts, but then I’d have to eat them.
