Beetle-red restaurant

We hit Kasan Red (517 Flat Shoals Ave., 404-549-9630), an odd little cafe in East Atlanta Village, last week. The oddity begins with the restaurant’s name, which is the color of the owner’s 1973 VW Beetle. And the cuisine is just as odd — a bit retro and plainly presented.
A filet of salmon (shown here) was seriously overcooked, as was a chicken breast, though both actually tasted good. The restaurant is using organic produce whenever possible, and sides of spaghetti squash timbale and a caprese salad were good.
The Aussie owner and the servers here are amiable, but the entrees’ quality needs serious improvement. I haven’t tried breakfast or lunch yet, but I’m betting they are better done.

I’m kind of disappointed that you didn’t like Kasan Red better. My husband and I have been half a dozen or more times and really really like the place. Though, yes, I think breakfest and lunch is more their forte. When we’ve been for dinner we both ordered either a burger or one of the sandwiches (chicken-brie panini is my favorite, and my husband loves the roast beef-wasabi goat cheese wrap). I hope that you’ll give them another try.

I agree that breakfast and lunch are quite good. I’ve been a few times myself and loved the chicken brie-panini and roast beef wasabi goat cheese wrap. The sweet potato chips are great too. They need some word-smithing on the menu, like “served with a side of homemade sweet potato chips, warm and crisp, lightly sprinkled with brown sugar”…because that’s what they are, delicious.
I have not been since they got their liquor license earlier this month, I had heard that the dinner menu was to expand with the coming of the booze. I hope they make dinner as good as lunch and breakfast.
