Brick Store in Decatur to open gastro pub
May 28th, 2008 by Thomas Wheatley in NewsOur fine friends at Decatur Metro did some digging about the Brick Store gastro-pub rumors and unearthed this nugget:
“According to Dave [BSP co-owner] this will be a separate venture in the vein of cool bar/bistro/beer/food concept (dare we call it a Gastro Pub?). If the lease negotiations go through they will take over July 1.
No word on the East Atlanta location, but from what I have heard getting a liquor license in the City of Atlanta is harder than getting into Augusta Country Club.”
They say it’ll be located in Rue de Leon’s current space right around the corner.

Confusing…Rue de Leon is in Decatur, not East Atlanta. Presumably they’d also have to get the liquor license through City of Decatur rather than City of Atlanta, but I don’t know if that makes things easier or harder.
Either way, interesting news. Brickstore’s the best bar in Decatur but it’s way too crowded and some of the food is hit-or-miss. I’m curious to see what they’d do with a gastropub concept.

The quote is from me and references two different properties connected to the Brick Store owners. Dave Blanchard confirmed to me that they were negotiating a lease on the Rue de Leon building (the old gas station at the corner of Ponce and Church streets) that would be a “gastropub” (my term, not Dave’s).
The East Atlanta location (Glenwood Park) would be a second Brick Store, but this is (at least to me) nothing more than a rumor.

Jeff, after reading the quote as two different locations it makes perfect sense. Thanks for clarifying.

The East Atlanta rumor I heard was actually more of a Grant Park rumor – that it’d be on Confederate. But again, pure rumor.

Dave – The people of GP/OP are awaiting the opening of Brick Store West (west of Decatur that is). I\\\’m getting thirsty just thinking about have good beer in my back yard!

My understanding was they were going to put a Brickstore at the corner of Confederate and Ormewood. And ran into zoning issues with a church and school to close by. Glennwood Park would be great alternative, though certainly not as cool as the original building they were considering.

Confederate & Ormewood would be a much better location because it is a hop, skip & jump across the park from my house. Glenwood Park is alright but they have enough dinner options in that tiny area.
