This was a very tasty lunch special at Anis Friday: grilled prawns with avocado mousse and shaved fennel salad. It wasn’t cheap — $16, which is more than I like to pay for lunch.
Anis has taken to posting its specials on a blackboard without prices. I feel like a jerk when I ask the server, “How much are them prawns?” But of course you’re supposed to feel so much like a jerk that you won’t ask. Remember when fancy restaurants used to have male and female menus? The man’s menu listed the prices, whereas the dependent woman’s did not.
My friend Brad ordered his usual here, the salmon salad.
Speaking of jerks, we noticed this rather wistful sticker on a car outside the restaurant. I want one to put on my rear-view mirror.
