New wine bar to open Thursday in Buckhead

January 19th, 2009 by Cliff Bostock in Drink, Restaurants

Cellar 56 will open on Thursday, Jan. 22, in Andrews Square at 56 East Andrews Drive in Buckhead.

Executive chef is Paul Agnelli, formerly of Capital Grille and Van Gogh’s. His menu is all small plates meant to complement the wines. Examples of the menu include various grilled flatbreads, corn meal oysters with Smithfield ham gravy and flat iron steak with chimi churri. All items are priced $3 to $5.

Cellar 56 gets its name from the fact that it offers 56 wine choices. Thirty of these are sourced from boutique wineries on small allocation and cost $24 a bottle, $3 for a half-glass and $6 for a full glass. The remaining 26 wines are available by the bottle and include many favorites at various pricing.

Cellar 56 will be open 5-11 p.m. Monday-Saturday.

I would think someone who considers themselves a foodie would be excited to try something new. Not to mention, it’s hard to call something boring before you have even tried it. I urge you to go. I ate there last night and was very pleased with everything. I highly recommend this place.

I quite liked Cellar 56, as I am reading from sceneadvisor.com, dailycandy, nymag.com and martiniboys.com and such, but really… Chef Paul Agnelli really has a good thing going on here. We dined at Cellar 56 last night after reading the sceneadvisor.com story (their picks have been spot on), but with Agnelli’s restaurant, I was quite pleased – with service, wine, and Chef Paul Agnelli’s fare. – Beth
