Christiane Lauterbach names her 2008 faves

Christiane Lauterbach, editor and publisher of Knife and Fork, has published her “Best of 2008.” You’ll have to get a subscription to the indispensable monthly newsletter (call 404-378-2775) to get details on each of her choices but here are the names of the winners:
Cakes and Ale, Craft, Cuerno, Dogwood, The Hil (in Serenbe), Holeman & Finch Public House, La Pietra Cucina, Market, The National (in Athens) and Sushi House Hayakawa.
I haven’t been to a couple of these but the only choice with which I’d take serious exception is Market. Christiane notes that it’s a “groovy space … with suprisingly affordable prices.” I agree with that, but I found the food rather boring, despite execution by the very talented Ian Winslade.
I fear my palate is in danger of becoming jaded by all these gourmet chain restaurants bearing celebrity names.
Christiane also gives a shout-out to Matt Rupert’s “charming neighborhood restaurant, Noni’s,” which she calls “a refuge of sanity in a neighborhood (Edgewood Avenue) that is in danger of being overtaken by bars.” Yay! I knew I’d eventually find a use for this picture I took of Matt’s shoes in September.
