February 19th, 2009 by Cliff Bostock in Food media

As if. Good Food Near You is a new website that “empowers consumers to incorporate healthy dining decisions into their everyday lifestyle,” according to an e-mail they sent me. Go ahead. Enter your zip code on the opening page and see what’s healthy in your neighborhood.

um, I just got these choices:

    KFC
    Pizza Hut
    Checkers

    Gee, thanks!

  2. Ehtrevor Says:

    This was my favorite suggestion:

    Piccadilly

    Healthiest Choice: Au Jus
Within 1.9 miles | View Menu
    Fat 0g | Calories 6 | Carbs 1g

I’m not sure I can make a meal out of just au jus, but I appreciate the suggestion.

  3. Hungry Says:

Mmmm…can’t wait to have a garden salad at McD’s or a 99-calorie chicken filet (no bun or pickle) from CFA. I feel healthy already…no, wait, that’s the feeling of starvation.

  4. dhaue Says:

    arby’s
    captain D’s
    Krystal
    Burger King
    Papa Johns
    McDonalds
    Wendy’s
    Starbucks
    Domino’s
    Pizza Hut

What a waste of time. Anybody have any idea who actually sponsers this? could it be someone like pepsico ????

  5. Steph Says:

LOL Ehtrevor.. I had the piccadily au jus as well. I wonder if I can get that to go. Also I never knew that Krispy Kreme apparently has a whole wheat glazed donut rolling in at 180 cal. Love it.

  6. Kali Says:

I just did this as well and all my “healthy” choices were all chains. I live down the street from Soul Veg, so something sure ain’t right.

  7. Albina Says:

    Haha, I love this one:

    Great Wraps
    Healthiest Choice: Cucumber, Chopped

  8. Tina Says:

This site is a joke right?

  9. Cliff Bostock Says:

Nooooo. Not a joke. Here’s the news release announcing the invaluable service:

  10. Lorenzo Says:

Okay, to play devil’s advocate, I suppose I could see some slight value in a service like this if I were on a road trip where I wanted to stop for a quick lunch and used my Internet-enabled wireless device to search for some reasonably healthy chain food choices among the places closest to my current location. Of course, most of us are already familiar with the chains’ attempts at “healthy” menu items and don’t need a service to remind us that McDonalds offers a grilled chicken sandwich.

While the concept could be useful, this particularly crude implementation of it is indeed laughable.

Here’s the healthiest choice in Buckhead:

    Popeyes Chicken & Biscuits
Healthiest Choice: Classic Mild Chicken Wing (without skin and breading)

  12. Kali Says:

So in other words: NO Popeyes’ Chicken????

    :)

  13. Steph Says:

nothings better than a chicken wing with out the skin or breading. I cant wait to start eating healthier
