That honestly sucks as one of my best friends–and here’s where it gets stupid–childhood friend’s father (whew!) owned Allegro. I never ate there, my friend did repeatedly and loved it, but we talked about it’s closing this past Tuesday. I heard some really good things about a couple of it’s dishes (I also they had had proper burrata, was that true? If so, I should’ve gotten my arse there sooner) but desserts and sides were FAIL.
Regardless, sad to see a restaurant near my neck of the woods go.
We ate there when it opened and it was great. however, they were very neighborhood “unfriendly” – which was probably their downfall. We tried to get them to participate in the taste of morningside and they very very rudely said no… It wasn’t the fact they said no – many restaurants don’t participate- it was the manner in which they did it. I guess that management attitude got them better of them.
Really hate to hear that. Loved the restaurant and Chef Rego’s food. His scallop carpaccio was absolutely heavenly! Loved the king crab cannelloni as well. We’re talking and salivating about the carpaccio right now here at the office. He did two benefit fundraisers for the nonprofit I work for…a pleasure to work with.
